What Has October Taught Me?

Today is day 26 of Blogtober 2026 and the topic today is What Has October Taught Me?

October

October has been a very mixed month for me.

1 – I Am Only Human

You would think my life would be simple now. With C loving university. With it just being me and Biscuit to worry about. Sadly no this is not the case and there are only 24 hours in a day. I can not do everything or please everyone.

2 – The Joy Of Cooking Again

With the weather much cooler, my meals have changed. I am now enjoying cooking heartwarming soups and stews and casseroles. I freeze down left overs for another day. Nothing like a cheats dinner day.

4 – To Breathe

There is nothing like nature to ground you and make you look around you. Having Biscuit I am lucky to get to really see this every single day. Just being able to switch off and take that time to look around embrace the changing season.

5 – To Be Selfish

This has been a tough one for me. My whole life I have been a people pleaser. Not to the extent I am a walk over but I have always put others first.

This has been the same even since I lost my husband. Yesterday, I lost it due to a flippant comment and it literally broke me. One thing this has shown me is I need to put myself first and be selfish as it is just me.

I Can Relax

Since my husband died, I have found it difficult to relax. I can not watch the tv shows we used to watch. I do however, apart from my soaps, can now watch the rubbish tv. The shows that take no concentration. These are now my guilty pleasure every day. Where I can just go to bed and have a cuddle with Biscuit and switch off from everyone and everything.

October has taught me a lot, that I am resilient and I have to put me first (a lot more than I do)
