Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 11/03/2026

Here we are at Wednesday again and the sun is shining. We have made it through another week, which means it is time for my weekly Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 11/03/2026.

My Week

This Week

Health

My poor dad does not get a break, he had a phone call last week after his appointment. He has lost weight and can not afford to lose any more weight before his operation. I wish I got told this news

I have been the one in pain this week. On Saturday we went food shopping and I put a couple of things in the freezer and my back went. I was in agony, no idea what I have done but am still in a lot of pain today. Although it feels a little better, luckily my Mum had this gel that really does help. I am walking around like an old lady as the pain is so bad.

Physio

As you may remember days before my husbands funeral last year. I somehow forgot the bottom steps and fell down our stairs broke my big toe and had a seizure. Ever since then I have had problems with pain and aching in my toe and I do hobble at times.

I put a request in at my Dr Surgery, and they came back with an appointment with the physio in the surgery. Now, I never knew you could have physio for a toe – but it is a thing. I have the exercises to prove it. I was then sent to have an x-ray which was a walk in near us. He did say it will probably be traumatic arthritis – I have not heard of that before either.

New Technology

I recently upgraded my phone. This meant that C could swap to her dads phone and I swapped his phone to my old phone. I have no idea what I did wrong, but I have managed to lock myself out of my online banking. I went through everything and it said a code would be sent through the post. Last Thursday, a week later I rang and was told a new code had not been generated, so went through everything again and now waiting on that code. You really do not know how much you rely on your online banking until you can not use it.

Recipes

I recently mentioned that I wanted to start trying out and sharing new recipes. Along with my bad back I got the ingredients for two easy recipes. Went to do one yesterday and had lost one of the ingredients, no idea where it has gone. Went to do the other recipe and had forgotten one of the ingredients. So watch this space as they are coming soon.

Heating

There I was resting my back last night on my bed, when my Mum kept shouting for me. The boiler had stopped working, luckily we have a maintenance plan and I booked an appointment for this morning. As we live in a Victorian house it gets cold quickly and even though the sun is shining it is freezing inside.

We do know the boiler is very old, as each year we are told this. But we are also told it is a good one and to keep going with it until it breaks where we would need a new one as you can no longer get parts for it. It could be worse it could have happened in January when it was a lot colder.

Motivation

This past year I seem to be struggling with motivation. I am feeling that void of who I was and learning to live a new life and a new me. I changed that day last February. For some reason I just seem to struggle so much at the moment with finding motivation.

I am hoping now the nicer weather is starting to appear I will find that my motivation will start to come back.

  1. Bit of a “me me me – look at me” comment, but I started to volunteer for my local football club and have been there since November. I am helping to sell the raffle tickets at the moment, and a lady has taken the time to email the club and tell them how friendly and polite I was. I was very shocked.

  20. Our eldest, 27, son decided to head off to Australia at relatively short notice. Being a chef is a key skill so a visa was no problem. Anyway, the Middle East and Trump impacted his flight so he ended up travelling to Melbourne via Los Angeles Angeles!! Anyway, again, he arrived safely and seems to have hit the ground running.

  28. Now retired we usually go out and about in our campervan all year round but this winter has been so wet, grey and cold we just didn’t feel like leaving home. We kept looking at the forecast for a few dry days but sod’s law one of us would have an appointment of some sort which again prevented us going. However, last week we finally made it and visited Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. Lots of walks available alongside the River Nene, around the lakes, through the woods and nature reserve. Managed over 3 miles each day . My March highlight was doing those walks without the need for a coat!!!!

  30. Well, if the boiler had to go, this was a good time for it. At least it’s not freezing at night. A new one will be welcome.

    1. Exactly what I said, although they have got it working again, but as it is very old (August 1998 it was fitted), I think this is the start of the end

  31. Oh, wow. I had zero idea that physical therapy for toes was a thing. I’m glad to hear it is, though. Hopefully it helps.

    1. My March highlight was spending Mother’s Day with my kids and they had made me some lovely handmade cards which are now in my memory box.
