My Autumn Bucket List

It is day 3 of the Blogtober 2022 challenge, and todays prompt is Autumn Bucket list. I will be going off topic for some of the prompts. Although, I do not have a bucket list of things I want to do. There are things that I do when Autumn has arrived.

Pack Away Summer

goodbye to the summer

As sad as it is, the summer dresses are being packed away, and a see you next year to my beloved flip flops. As we say goodbye to the Summer. I do keep my t shirts and vest tops out throughout the year to layer up when the weather gets too cold.

Home Comforts

home comforts

It is time to make my home comfortable for those grey, wet and cold days and nights. C loves her teddy fleece duvets. I love my fluffy throws and on my sofas to add a bit of cosiness. I also love my candles and wax melts and have them out ready to start lighting. Although I do use them throughout the year, I change the fragrances in the Autumn and light them more than I do in the Summer.

Finances

finances

Something, that is on all our minds at the moment is the cost of living and how we are going to cope through the colder months. Although, this is something I do at the start of the colder months. It is something I have been looking at more this year. With the help of SavingsCalculator.org, I have been able to work out finances in a way that makes it easy to see exactly what I have to pay out. It also helps to work out what I need to be putting by for C’s college costs.

I find having it there in black and white makes me feel in control of my finances. What is going out and what we have coming in.

Days Out

Days out

I am planning some days out with C in the half term and a birthday shopping trip out next month. This is going to surprise everyone though. This morning while waiting with C in the car to go into college, I emailed Chessington World of Adventures to apply for our residence tickets. As either going with my daughter in law and grandchildren in the half term, or taking C so she can see the animals. As you know I hate the traffic it brings and the fight I have to go out as our road gets blocked. C is happy though which is all that counts.

Meal Planning

meal planning and preparation

Not necessarily meal planning, as I am not one for thinking Monday will be this, and Tuesday we will have that. More about stocking up my freezer. I am one of those people that will make extra and freeze down for my, as I call them ‘lazy day dinners’.

Last week, I made my cottage pie, and as C wanted something different I froze down half of the mix to use another day and just add the mashed potato. When I do roast beef, I cook it in the slow cooker and then freeze down meat and gravy for other meals, which we are having tonight.

I find this helps with food costs, plus those days you just don’t want to cook.

What is on your bucket list this Autumn?

  1. We have fluffy throws on the sofa and chairs. KayCee and Ella even use them all through Summer! I can be sat there sweating and they’re wrapped up in throws!

  2. You definitely have some good projects on your bucket list. I like to get a lot done in the fall months. Such a busy time!

  3. Your Autumn bucket list looks similar to mine, I’m planning some days out with kids, got the throws out to keep warm and slowly changing our decor to reflect the Autumn colours

  4. We have been planning days out to different Halloween events this month! I love October – it’s such a fun time.

  5. A lot of amazing day trips for me to see the gorgeous scenery around, I looove Fall and its beautiful colors.

  6. Yes it is sad to think about putting away the summer dresses! But once the weather changes I am happy to pull out my jeans and boots! As for meal planning, I was just saying to my mother that I really need to do this and stock up. I guess I should get my act together.

  7. I love this list. This is a great reminder to start thinking about the future colder months bc everything is so expensive these days!

  8. Planning ahead for the colder months and holidays is so important and a great way to keep on track. Ahh but I’m looking forward to the fall and winter nonetheless and I hope to still be able to make the seasons cheerful regardless.

  9. I love a meal plan and freezer stocking sounds like a good plan. I’ve still not made it to Chessington despite living not far away.

  10. Wow! I am glad to have ‘stumbled upon’ your post. I am doing Blogtober for the first time so my Bucketlist idea now sounds so silly when I look at yours. I’ll have to revisit mine. Putting away certain items of clothing is a must do. And so is having a look at the finances and making adjustments where necessary.. I’ll be sure to check back on your posts. Happy Blogtober!

  11. It can be handy to make large batches of food in advance. I try to when I can as it can really save time when you’re busy. I should do that with cottage pie. It’s a dish my husband loves but doesn’t get to have often.

    1. It is handy to have something in the freezer you can pull out. As C is eating differently to us, she no longer wants my cottage pie. So thought I would cook as usual and freeze down, I do not like frozen or re-heated mash though so will do that fresh on the day

  12. I have been freezing quite a bit of food recently as well. I was away for a while and I didn’t want to throw away the food I already had in the fridge so I made a slow cooked beef and tomatoes pasta sauce and a roasted peppers sauce which I will probably use for chicken at some point. Sometimes you really don’t want to cook or are too busy and these frozen meals can be so useful then.

  13. A good, practical bucket list. Love it. I am definitely ready for the colder months myself. Thanks for sharing about the savings calculator. It seems to be a very neat tool.

    1. I love the cooler weather as well, I love the savings calculator and feeling in control, which is what we all need to feel at the moment with everything going up in price

  14. I’m already thinking about Christmas presents and trying to buy as much as I can during the sales. I definitely need to bring out my jumpers and winter wear out though but like a lot of people, I still want me tees out so I can layer. I’m also off to Mallorca in the half term so still have packing to do for that as well. Autumn feels so busy already

  15. It’s much too early to put our summer attire away here in California. Our weather has never hit below 89 degrees since June.

  16. I’ve also been packing away summer stuff and getting out warmer clothes and lots of snuggly blankets. I also like to keep vest tops out for layering up as I find it really helps to keep warm.

  17. This is a great way to transiton between seasons. I also feel the need to change things up for Autumn. Thanks for sharing. x

  18. Great list! I’m definitely feeling in the mood to tidy the house and prep for the months spent indoors.

  19. I have started packing away the summer stuff too. I put all my vest tops at the bottom of the wardrobe and then realised I still need a few, like you to layer up.
Good idea about looking at our finances. I think we all need to, especially with the cost of living crisis. x

    1. I love to layer up, today I have a vest top on under a loose jumper. I think everyone is looking at their finances a little more closely this year

  20. Good list! I’m slowly getting ready for the colder weather, the cardi’s have come out of the wardrobe. I’m also thinking of finances, I’ve lost a big chunk of my income this year because of my daughter leaving full time education. I think I really need to get sorted on meal planning too, and stop wasting money on food that is not getting eaten.

    1. It is a big drop when they leave full time education, I like to make things that I can freeze down aand just needs warming though. Today I have a rroast dinner and just need to add veg and roast potatoes and if I feel like making them some yorkshire puddings as well

  21. I’ve packed away my summer clothes. I don’t think I’ll be needing my shorts until next year. I keep a couple of t shirts as they are handy for layering

  22. Lovely autumn bucket list. Interesting to read that you live near Chessington. It’s good you can get residents’ tickets but I can imagine how frustrating it is with traffic etc. Not quite the same but a few years ago they built the new school across from our house. Everyone says how lucky we are to live so near to the school, but I wouldn’t have chosen to as it’s a nightmare with traffic and parking. It’s a good idea to save money and stock the freezer. xxx

    1. I live on the main road, so you can imagine the traffic and don’t get me started on the traffic lights for there. I feel for you living by a school access I would not want to either
