A Love Letter to My Favourite Mug

Today is day 7 of the Blogtober 2025 challenge and the topic today is – A Love Letter to My Favourite Mug.

Everyone who knows me knows my love of mugs. I have so many, mine and my husbands always matched it was just my thing. When I saw the prompt for today, I thought how do I choose my favourite mug. I have so many and then I thought back to a status I put up a few weeks ago, on a lazy Sunday morning.

Dear Favourite Mug

I do apologise for not showing you in the best light. This photo was taken on a Sunday morning where a big coffee was in order to start the day.

Sundays are my hardest day of the week and as I opened the cupboard to grab a mug you spoke to me to pick you.

You are the biggest mug I own and you serve me so well. I made my morning coffee and came back to bed and sat hugging the warmth you brought with it.

I remember our very first meeting, it was around this time 25 years ago in October 2000. It was our first major holiday together and we were having a great time in Florida. One of the mementos we came home with was you and also the Mickey Mouse one for Bry.

It was love at first sight, and together with your partner you have given us both happy memories over these 25 years. The conversations and dreams we have had while sitting sipping our coffees from you.

Today, as I navigate a new life, you bring me warmth and comfort when I need it. Strangely, I only use you on a Sunday. It is like you know the day and you know I need that extra support.

You are my longest serving mug and one I hope we continue with.

Thank you my favourite mug for giving me that support on the hardest day of the week.

Sam xx

Do you have a favourite mug, the one you reach for when you need that something a little extra?

  1. Somehow, I missed this post. It’s lovely – and very touching.

Your older followers may remember the days when petrol stations used to give out free mugs. Many were chunky with deeply unattractive designs. I had a ghastly blue and white checkered one that seemed to last and last while, at the same time, I managed to drop and break many of the beautiful, expensive, handmade mugs that I owned.

In the end, I put my checkered petrol station mug in a box of charity shop donations in the hope that somebody found it more aesthetically pleasing than I did.

Perhaps, one day, I’ll have a mug with beautiful memories like yours.

  2. I have a mug that my mum bought me when I started uni 35 years ago! It has been on quite a journey since then!

  3. I have a few favourite mugs, not sure I’d be able to pick just one. Sounds like you have had yours for ages. I love the you and Bry got complementing mugs. That’s so cute x

  4. I don’t have a favorite mug, but I do have a favorite water bottle. Your letter is so sweet, I can really say your mug brings you good coffee and comfort.

  5. Simple yet heartfelt reminder of how everyday objects can hold so many memories. It’s amazing how something as small as a mug can bring comfort and nostalgia.

  6. OMG that is so impressive….You had your beautiful much for 25 years! wow…My oldest mug is about 10 years old, I got it from Disneyland and love it.
