Meet The Blogger – Gemma

Meet the blogger - gemma

Following on in my Meet The Blogger series, today I am introducing you to Gemma who blogs over at A Little Bit Of Social.

Gemma

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF?

I’m Gemma, I’m married to Nick and we have two children. We live just North of Portsmouth in the UK and I am a lifestyle and family blogger.

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING?

I have dabbled previously in blogging, before it was a ‘career’, I used to treat it as a diary and share my experiences with a small network of friends but in 2018, I took the leap and decided I needed a creative outlet. I wanted to share our experiences as a family and how we navigate life with a son with special needs.

HAS YOUR BLOG CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED?

Not really, I try and keep in with family experiences, life and special needs.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FUNNIEST MOMENT SINCE STARTING YOUR BLOG?

My blog is called ‘A Little Bit Social’ because that’s one thing as a special needs child he struggles with but also as parents its not easy having time to socialise. My daughter was explaining it to one of her friends and to this day calls it ‘A Little Bit Anti-Social’. It always makes me chuckle.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR WORST MOMENT SINCE STARTING YOUR BLOG?

It’s still very early days for me so nothing too bad for me yet.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEW BLOGGER STARTING OUT?

It’s not easy, there will be times when you will feel unmotivated, there will be times when you will feel overwhelmed and there will be other times when you feel ready to take on the blogging world. Never forget why you started, it won’t give you success overnight but it so rewarding.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU ABOUT BLOGGING THAT YOU DID NOT REALISE BEFORE YOU STARTED?

How negative other bloggers can be about others work. I haven’t received it personally but there has been a lot of hate being thrown around social media. There is only a small proportion, I’ve met some lovely bloggers who are really supportive and helpful.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

I have a part-time job that works around my family life so when I get a bit of spare time I like to write short stories, write for my blog and watch films at the cinema. I enjoy spending time with my family.

IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY WHAT WOULD YOU DO FIRST?

Buy a large detached house which would be suitable for us to grow with, that could meet our sons needs and so our daughter could have sleepovers.

WHO IS YOUR BLOGGING HERO AND WHY?

Brogan Tate – She is more of a vlogger now but I have always loved her blog, she is a lot younger than me but I like how she is honest, raw and doesn’t try too hard. She is an inspiration to so many girls. She has inspired me.

Thank you I am loving hosting the series and meeting new bloggers x

  • It is so sad that bloggers are negative about other bloggers work, campaigns and social media channels. I’d much rather adopt the ‘if you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all’

I agree, I never see the point in wanting to hurt someone like that x

I started a blog as a diary of some sort. I was going through so much that I needed some kind of emotional release. Writing helped me survive that time in my life. I can relate to Gemma in so many ways. I will check out her blog. I am going to add her to my reading list.

I started mine for the same reason, it is amazing how many Bloggers have the reason they started in common
