Meet The Blogger – Eddie

Following on in my Meet The Blogger series, today I am introducing you to Eddie who blogs over at Yorkie…Not Just For Dads

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF?

Hey my names Eddie. I’m 34 from the North Yorkshire coast. I’m a Stay at home dad, step dad, depression and anxiety sufferer. I would class myself as a normal run of the mill bloke, liking cars and food really. I love to spend time with the family, but with 5 young children, adult life and hobbies are tricky to add into the mix.

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING?

I started blogging as an avenue to diary of day-to-day life as a Stay at Home Father. The stigma around the Dad being the Stay at Home Parent, the judgement I want to share that we can do it too and it’s certainly not an easy task. To raise awareness and speak out about my own mental health issues and struggles. A way to share with other parents, fathers especially, that it’s ok to open up and share how they feel and seek help. Added into that I wanted to share my life, family and lifestyle with the world of a larger family with altogether 5 daughters and a fiance who is following her dream becoming a student and aiming towards becoming a qualified midwife.

HAS YOUR BLOG CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED?

Yes many times, I originally started out blogging about my hobby of cooking and love for food. I found myself writing more about my family life, my mental health and day-to-day life as a Stay at home Dad. So a new blog started and built upon to what it is presently.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FUNNIEST MOMENT SINCE STARTING YOUR BLOG?

The out takes of images and video’s to share on my Instagram account for the blog. The blurry photos due to children not keeping still or how you want them for a certain image for a post. Also writing as if I’m talking to a friend about a certain subject. I get slightly carried away and more rambling and ranting. When I read them back I chuckle to myself about what I have written.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR WORST MOMENT SINCE STARTING YOUR BLOG?

The nerves and over thinking of sharing my life with unknown strangers. The readers. Overthinking of judgemental thoughts and comments of what readers may think of me and my family. The lack of self-confidence around what I write and the subjects I blog about.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEW BLOGGER STARTING OUT?

Be yourself. Find a niche that you love and enjoy the Planning of posts surrounding your niche. Mine is my family and I love to write about it and share with the world.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU ABOUT BLOGGING THAT YOU DID NOT REALISE BEFORE YOU STARTED?
How much work and effort that is involved. The background stuff. SEO, traffic etc… The technical gubbins behind blogging. A lot of how to’s googled and researched, videos watched which help with the self learning of it all.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
Eat, cook and family time. I love to eat and cook. Cooking in my kitchen is like my zen place of relaxation. I spend a lot of time with my kids and I love it.
IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY WHAT WOULD YOU DO FIRST?

Buy a house with a double garage. I’ve always wanted a garage so I can get back into cars. An old hobby of mine, a car enthusiast. Plus a Man Cave. What dad and bloke doesn’t want a man cave right!!

WHO IS YOUR BLOGGING HERO AND WHY?

Dadblog UK – John Adams. I frequently find myself perusing through his posts. A fellow Stay at home dad, reading about his journey along with the work he does to help and aid at home parents. Also the cars, he has done numerous reviews of cars and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading them. The parental advice is good content too All relatable which is why I frequent his site quite often.

  4. I don’t think many people realize just how much work blogging is and what kind of work it requires. This was such a lovely interview and nice knowing more about Eddie.

  5. Not a blog I have heard of, so will head over and take a look. One of my wishes if we move is to have a garage too, fed up of falling over bikes in the house!!

    1. One reason I love hosting this series is introducing bloggers we may not know of. We have a garage but it is full of rubbish, although our washing machine and freezers (one is the dogs) is there as well x

  6. Aw I always like to read and learn about other bloggers. I can imagine Photos being blurred at times with kids all over haha xx

    1. I love finding out about people and lovely to see how other Bloggers started and their stories. Kids and photos do not mix well x
