Everyone who knows me will know one of my very many sayings ‘I do not do exercise’, along with ‘I do not run anywhere’. These same people also know that, I am always on the go, and the exercise I do get I do not class as exercise. I have also decided that now is the time to take action and look at getting myself healthier.
Getting healthy is not just focussing on one area of your life, it is a total lifestyle change. Which is why I am sharing how I plan to make 2023 my year to get healthy. Maybe some of you will join me on my journey. I already walk miles a day walking the dogs. On top of everything else I do. But I do need to do more.
Table of Contents
1 – Get A Good Nights Sleep

The best way to start your day, is by getting a good nights sleep. By getting your full 8 hours sleep you will give your body and mind a chance to rest. Some things you can try are –
- Keep your bedroom at a cool temperature
- Have low lighing
- Avoid tecnhology before bed
- Use an eye mask to help block out light
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine before bed
2 – Healhy Eating

It is time to start looking at what goes into your body. I prefer not to think of it as a diet, more a healthy eating regime. Otherwise, I am heading straight for the chocolate. When you take diet out of the way you are thinking, it is a lot easier. Ways I find to up my healthy eating is switching foods for a healthier option –
- Make your own smoothies – use left over fruit or veg, add natural yogurt, add some local honey to sweeten if you like things a little sweeter.
- Have sticks of celery, carrots, pepper etc ready to nibble on if you get hungry
- Look at the meals you love and then see if you can make them healthier – remember not a diet
3 – Kit Youself Out

No matter what exercise you do, you need to have the correct clothing. You may think that clothes are clothes, a pair of leggings and a t shirt is fine. Honestly, I used to think like this until a few years ago when I did purchase the correct clothing.
- Sports Bras – One thing I do know is that no matter what exercise you are doing. A good sports bra is very important. Like with your normal bras, it is always best to go with a perfect fit and the best one you can afford.
- Shoes – Honestly, there are trainers for everything these days. I do have walking shoes for walking the dogs. So, it makes sense to look at the categories and get the right shoes for your chosen sport.
- Clothing – Once you know what form of exercise you want to do. You can then look at new clothing forr the activity
4 – Keep Hydrated

Keep hydrated, this is something we should be doing anyway. I am trying to drink more water daily. I do love the bottles you can get where you can put fresh fruit to make flavoured water. This makes drinking water a lot easier for me.
Do you have any advice on getting healthier?

I think sleep is underestimated. it literally affects everything you do and how you feel, react and how productive you can be. Also eating healthy doesn’t mean cutting out everything that is bad. If you do that your brain will crave it which can make you go back to bad eating habits, Instead allow yourself a cheat day to indulge in a burger or a bar of chocolate, It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
I totally agree, I factor in healthier meals and just change a few things, as soon as I hear diet I need chocolate
I often find it so hard to eat healthy and to get enough sleep at night, especially in the wintertime when everything is so glum and cold. Thank you for the reminders.
I struggle in the winter especially with the weather this week
I agree that getting healthy is an overall transition that you definitely have to put in a lot of conscious effort into for sure. I’m not a fan of working out either, but I know I need to start.

I’m just the opposite. Everyone who knows me will know one of my very many sayings ‘I exercise daily’, along with ‘I am always running about’.
I am always saying I am running about, I barely stop and am up and down but don’t do proper exercise
I so love this and need to be more active myself. I always can do more and to be honest in the NE it is tough as I don’t want to go outside when it is seriously cold. I do have. stationary bike but cannot wait fo the nicer weather to get out ad hike and walk everywhere 😉 Thank you for this and working on my water intake!
I have to walk everyday for the dogs, so take that as a lot of mine
I started on a journey toward a healthier lifestyle in the spring of 2021. Getting enough sleep and getting lots of water have both been a big part of that.
I am finding sleep very disturbed at the moment so do need to work on that
I am doing most of these things, I need to exercise more though. I am not moving enough.
