Today is Day 19 of the Blogtober 2025 challenge. The prompt for to day is The Thing I Always Forget About Autumn Until It Happens.
Like with many of these prompts, they have really made me stop and think about the question. Delving deeper into it, I am surprised with what I realise.
Every year, as Autumn sneaks in slowly. I start to see the first leaf drift down usually from our apple tree in the garden, and feel the first chill in the morning air. This is when I start to say hello to Autumn. Below I take a look at those little things that says Autumn is here.

The Quiet Shift

The other day it had been sunny (for a change) and I look out of the window to see a beautiful hazy yellowish sky. I noticed the stillness that arrives in the evenings, the way the world seems to hush a little earlier.
It is that golden light. The kind that hits at just the right angle and makes everything look softer, almost cinematic. Making time feel a little slower
The Unexpected

Like with all changing seasons, Autumn brings its own part with it. There are vivid in your face changes and some more subtle. The changing colours all around, the coolness in the air. How the dry leaves change as the rain falls down onto them.
The Return Of Those Rituals

Gone are the heady Summer days and nights. Autumn is where I do slow down and enjoy the simpler things in life
- Lighting my scented candles as this is something I rarely do in the Summer
- Enjoying a hot chocolate, even more so as I have treated us to a Velvetiser
- Being reunited with my slippers
- Cosy jumpers
- Spending more time baking
- Cosy nights with warm throws
What’s the thing you always forget about autumn — until it happens?

I forget how darker the nights get as soon as summer is over
Even more so when it is grey out during the day
I always forget what fun it is to play in the leaf piles. I also forget how much work it is to make them. Yard work is hard if you don’t have all the right fancy tools.
I agree it is hard work but sometimes we have to let that inner child come out
Candles are definitely one I start doing and realise we are in the autumn cosy months
I am the same, I tend to go for reed diffusers more during the Summer so know Autumn is here when the candles start to be lit
boiler service – this year I remembered as a friend gave me the nod to do it
love the changing colours
We get a reminder thankfully that we need to get the boiler checked
I enjoy the changing seasons, especially September and October. I like the warmer part, rather than the end of the season when you know Winter is coming.
I am the same it is nice having the cooler weather but nice sunny days, although they are rare these days
My husband has a medical procedure done so we have not been to our home in The Poconos and I know when we get there the yard will be covered in leaves. Good thing we have a gas powered blower LOL….. as the falling leaves seem never ending! I love Fall so much 😉 Such a cozy and warm time of the year.
The falling leaves seem to keep coming we have a tree in our garden and as quickly as you clear them there are more falling
I have a Mallow bush in my garden, and every year there will be 1 flower left on it way after all the others have fallen off! Last year it remained in to November
That is lovely I hope it does the same this year
Autumn is truly a wonderful season in my opinion. I totally agree that just like every other seasons, the autumn brings its own beauty to this world.
There is a beauty that comes with Autumn
I love fall for the same reasons. I love to light a candles and cuddle on the couch
I do love my scented candles and wax melts
