Today is day 20 of the Blogtober 2025 challenge. The topic today is A Recipe That Smells Like Home in October.
This is a lot harder than you think it would be, as there is not just one recipe of smell that I would say smells like home. The smell of my home is made up of so many different elements it really is difficult to pick out just one.

Fragrances

I love my home to smell nice, when you walk in the door or in a room it smells fresh. Around my home I have reed diffusers, plugin air fresheners and various other air fresheners around.
I do switch these each season, so my home not only smells, but it also smells like the season.
Home Cooking

Nothing smells like Autumn than the shift in home cooked meals. Below is some of the foods that just bring me comfort as soon as I walk in the door.
- Homemade Soup – even better with homemade bread
- Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon
- Authentic Chilli Con Carne
- Traditional Bolognaise
- Easy Slow Cooked Roast Beef
These just make my home feel homely and gives me that warm feeling inside
Then of course it is the smell of the fresh coffee brewing or the hot chocolate for those treat moments
These are not everything that smells like home. But they play such a huge part. The familiarity when you walk through the front door. When you leave the cold grey weather outside behind you. Or you just get a whiff of your home cooked meal cooking and know it is proper home comfort food.
What is that smell that makes home smell like home for you? Or that smell when you are out that transports you back to your Autumns of your childhood?

definitely time to get that slow cooker going. a nice beef stew is so good to come home to.
I had to get a new slow cooker recently, it is so much lighter than my old one and is getting good use
I love making soups and stews around this time of year
So do I they always make me feel cosy at home
Home made soup is definitely the one food that gives me the warm and comfort I need when I am in my home. Nothing beets it in my opinion.
There is nothing more comforting than homemade soup and you can just use items you have at home so it is affordable as well
Fragrances around the home are so important, although with our cats I don’t have as many reed diffusers as I used to. But you can’t beat the smell of home cooked meals x
I totally get the cats and reed diffusers problem when I had my cats they used to love playing with things they were not allowed too. I always find comfort from the smell of home cooked meals
I love the smell of home in my house. We had a lot of easy hearty meals in October – it’s neat hearing about the scents and foods from your home.
I love how my home is smelling at the moment and am enjoying some new home cooked recipes as well
I love the smell of smoke from a bonfire. Not everyone’s choice but I like it
I do love the smell of a bonfire it is when you come indoors and you smell of it as well I do not like
Omg! This recipe is perfect. I will share this with my sister, and we will try making it this weekend, I guess.
Which recipe is it you are liking
soup is always a winner with me – batch bake and freeze and serve with crusty bread or garlic bread
I am totally with you on this, I do love homemade soup
I do love the smell of fresh coffee within the home. It’s one of those fragrances that are lovely all year round. Homemade soup is lovely at this time of year. As you said, it’s better with the scent of homemade bread!!!
I love the smell of coffee, always brings a smile to my face when I am using my coffee machine
I love a good roast beef or pot roast recipe during the fall. There’s nothing better!
I agree that is always home comfort to me
I try and buy seasonal diffusers and candles! I always buy my mum a seasonal reed diffuser for her bedroom
I do tend to switch fragrances depending on the season
I love good scents too. I am a fan of vanilla candles and warming smells. I also love the smell of a good casserole cooking too.
Vanilla is always my go to fragrance even C says to me when she sees a vanilla candle, but I do also love other fragrances. I do love a good casserole sadly C does not so I cook them for one now and freeze down for other days
