The Ritual of Soup

Day 4 of Blogtober 2025 is The Ritual of Soup. The weather is getting cooler and there is nothing nicer than a bowl of homemade soup. Below I am sharing some of my homemade soup recipes.

When the weather is cold, or you have had a busy day and just need something warm and tasty to give you that home comfort you need a bowl of homemade soup always does the job.

Tomato Basil Soup

Tomato & Basil Soup

2 Cans Chopped Tomatoes
1 Onion – Chopped
2 Cloves Garlic – chopped
2 Cups of Vegetable Stock
Fresh Basil
Cream – optional

  • In a pan saute the onion and garlic until softened
  • Add both cans of chopped tomatoes and the vegetable stock
  • Stir and then simmer for about 15 minutes
  • Blend the soup to a smooth consistency and then add the fresh basil and cream

Chicken Noodle Soup

Shredded cooked chicken
1 Onion – peeled and chopped
2 Carrots sliced or chopped
2 Celery Sticks – thinly sliced
6 cups of chicken stock
Egg Noodles
Fresh Parsley

  • Thinly slice or chop the onion, carrots and celery – I chop thinly so not huge chunks
  • Saute the onions, carrots and celery until softened
  • Add the chicken stock and noodles
  • Simmer until the noodles are cooked
  • Add the chicken and heat through and then add the parsley

Lentil Soup

Lentil Soup

1 cup of red lentils
1 Onion
2 Carrots
2 Garlic Cloves
4 Cups of Vegetable Stock
1 tsp Cumin

  • Finely chop the onion, carrots and garlic – I used an electric chopper that takes seconds
  • In a pan sate the above until soft
  • Add the cumin and coat the veg
  • Add the lentils and stock and simmer until the lentils are soft – around 20 minutes
  • Blend to the consistency you prefer and serve

Leek & Potato Soup

Leek and potato soup

3-4 Potatoes
2 Leeks
4 Cups Vegetable Stock
Cream

  • Peel and chop the potatoes
  • Wash and slice the leeks
  • Saute the leeks until they have softened
  • Add the potatoes and vegetable stock and simmer until the potatoes are soft
  • Blend to a smooth consistency
  • Add cream

  1. its something I love to make as can freeze easily : love nutritional food for days I’m unable to move or function

  2. That tomato soup looks incredible and I love it with a delicious grilled cheese sandwich. I will for sure be making that one…. and they all look delicious and I love Fall!

  3. I make veg soup every week. I use butternut squash, carrots, frozen leeks, celery and any veg I have at hand , maybe broccoli stalks , parsnips, mushrooms and tomatoes. I use the jelly Stock pots and add a few different herbs and a teaspoon of curry powder. I think I would like to try your lentil soup

    1. Vegetable soup is great for using up veg that is getting near its sell by date or a quick and easy soup with frozen veg, I will have to try the curry powder in mine next time
