Today is day 18 of the Blogtober 2025 challenge and the topic is – Autumn Through a Child’s Eyes vs. an Adult’s.
When I was little, autumn felt like magic. The kind you could touch, crunch, and chase down the street. Now, as an adult, it feels quieter. Maybe that is the difference as children see autumn and adults feel it.

Autumn Through a Child’s Eyes

As a child the changing seasons were always an adventure. When Autumn came around it was all about –
- Jumping into leaf piles and pretending they were treasure.
- Wrapping up in our scarves and woolly hats
- Putting on our wellies and jumping in leaves and puddles
- Hot chocolate
Every day was about colour and the possibility of what fun we could have. The air was cooler, yes, but it didn’t mean “the year is ending.” It meant “something fun is coming.”
Autumn, to a child, is a playground with endless fun and chaos.
Autumn Through an Adult’s Eyes

As an adult we see Autumn in a totally different way. It seems a lot slower and we notice the beauty of the changing season.
It is the pleasure we get from wrapping our hands around a warm mug. Those early nights where we can leave the cooler air outside. The scent of our scented candles flickering away.
Of course, we never grow up from crunching through the leaves – and we are allowed to still have fun.
As adults, we still see the beauty, but it comes with awareness. Time is passing as the leaves fall, the year fades. Autumn still is a season on reflection that does have fun and beauty no matter what ages you are. Now I need to grab my grandkids and go stomping through those leaves.
What is something you still notice or love about autumn that your childhood self would recognise?

I can’t resist kicking up a pile of dry leaves like a big kid!
I think it is something we all love to do
children definitely see different things – they are often more perceptive
I love being with mhy grandchildren as they show me the world through their eyes and it is a lot more fun
The kids love Fall so much. They don’t see the work that needs done in the yard, they see leaves as so much fun (and they are, but they’re a lot of work too).
I love the innocence of kids and the fun they see in everything, which is lost as we become adults
The changing of the leaves . The different colours in autumn is something I have always loved and noticed .
I do love the beauty of Autumn and the changing colours
I love Autumn but I feel people rush through it to Christmas. I love the leaves and the cooler weather.
As I have a ton of birthdays in November I always have to get them out of the way before I properly think about Christmas
Even though I no longer play conkers, I still get a bit excited if I see perfect browwn ones under a tree!
I am the same
Love this and I swear if I could time travel back I would want to go back to being a kid. The best years ever…. no worries about anything other than growing up and finding your way and simply having fun trying new things. I loved raking up all of the leaves and then diving into them!
I love looking at life through my grandkids eyes, I can appreciate it much more as a grandparent to when I was a mum
It is very interesting to read about autumn through a child’s and an adult’s eyes. I totally agree that children see the changing season and adults feel it.
Children have such innocence and just see things so differently to us adults
I remember jumping in leaves. So much fun!!
Although I do not jump through them now I do love walking through the leaves
