One thing I find through the winter months, is just how much my skin and hair suffers. It is not only the weather, but also the heating that can affect us. I am sharing some of my tips on how to look and feel good.

Skin Care

It is no surprise to you, that I love skin care products, and love trying new ones, alongside my favourites.
My daily routine –
- I use a moisturising shower gel
- Then apply a moisturiser
- I also use a day face cream and then a night face cream
- Through out the day I apply hand cream
Twice a week –
- I use what I call my special shower gels – the ones that are a little more expensive
- Then, I apply a matching body lotion or body butter
- Next is a face serum, I love these but try not to use them every day
I also love face masks and try to do them once or twice a month.
Hair Routine

My hair suffers terribly during the winter months. As I do not go out to work everyday now, I do tend to leave washing my hair and not washing every day or every other day. I also try to not use any hair drying or styling on my hair either. Saying that, I usually end up drying my hair or I look like a mad woman, as my hair is so thick.
Normal Washing –
- If I am just ‘washing my hair’ I use a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner for quickness
- Then I will then leave my hair to dry for a while
- Usually at some point the hair dryer will come out just so I can dry it properly
Once a week (or if I am going out)
- As I colour my hair as the grey is a nightmare, I use a purple shampoo to tone down the colour
- I then apply a hair food conditioner and keep that on for a while
- When it comes to drying, I apply products to stop it frizzing and also protect my hair from any heat damage
- As my hair is long and thick, I need a decent hair dryer mdlondon has the perfect hair dryer for this.
- I then get the straighteners out, I apply a spray before hand that will protect my hair.
Look After Your Feet

One area we tend to neglect is our feet. I have used feet peel masks for the past couple of years, but only recently started using feet masks. They are amazing (plus gives you time to sit down and relax). They make such a difference.
Hands and Nails

One thing I am lucky with is my nails, I have strong and healthy nails. I have never been to a nail bar, and have a variety of nail varnishes and a uv lamp so I can do my own nails at home when ever I want a change, or am going out.
Like many of us, my hands get dry just by going around our daily lives. Which is why applying a good hand cream is vital for our hands. Adding some colour to our nails, just gives that bit of colour during the grey winter months and always makes me feel happier. You can also take omega 3 supplements to help with your skin, heart, joint and nail health. As with most self-care measures, taking a holistic view can also help the more precise areas of our health.
Eat Healthier

I always struggle to eat healthily in the winter, than I do in the summer. I love my comfort foods and partial to a steamed pudding and custard. But to look good on the outside, we do need to help ourselves and try to eat healthily. I do love summer fruits, more than winter fruits. I do try to include more vegetables in our meals and snack on fruit during the day. One thing I am bad with is drinking water especially in the winter.
Do you have any tips to share?

I hate my feet, no matter whatever I do it’s dry and dark. But yes I take much better care of my hair but these days my hairfall has increased too.
I am the same with my feet, but find that using a foot peel and foot masks do help
I have to be honest, I don’t have a skin or hair routine, I just don’t have the time with kids at the moment, but I do try and get a good night sleep and outdoors every day and for now that’s really helping. At some point when I am organised I will deal with my skin

I was tthhe same when my kids were younger, you just never find the time
I do neglect my feet a lot. I have never heard of feet masks but they seem a lot less work then all the other feet treatment I’ve heard. I need to get some ASAP and as my heel are horrible and dry. You are great at taking care of skin and I love your commitment. I need to start moisturising more before i regret it
I hate my feet, the foot peel is great as a week later the dry dead skin flakes away. It does look pretty gross though and then the masks are a lovely way to moisturis them
A perfect reminder. I’ve noticed my skin and hair feels a little dry. I’ve started taking skin, hair & nails and also Vit B. I need to improve my skincare routine though, and give myself a little more TLC. Thank you!
It is easy to not take notice, I used to be terrible looking after myself, now it is more routined I do find it has improved my skin and hair
These are some helpful tips. My skin gets very dry in winters I got to take care of it more.
It is just about giving yourrself some me time
My skin gets quite dry in winter as well, especially my hands which are the most exposed to the cold temperatures. I use a great hand cream from Neutrogena that moisturises but doesn’t live any residue behind.
I do use a lot of hand cream and like to mix them up a bit
I think during these winter months we all need a little extra pampering. The weather always makes my skin and hai feel like it needs a little extra TLC
I used to neglect my skin in the winter and look after it more in the summer, but the colder weather also affects our skin and it is just as important to look afterr it
This is a perfect post for me right now, I have been trying to look after myself more, I have upped skincare recently and have tried to get more fruit into my diet to up my immune system. I have did a hair treatment last night which was well needed. x
It is just about finding the time and giving yourself some tlc, I find evenings when I have a shower is my time as computer is off and everything else is done
A little pampering and self care does wonders for the mind and spirit especially during these cold months where the gray days can really feel so long and depressing. Great ideas and tips!
I always love a bit of pampering, but more so when it is cold and grey
Self-care is so important and all of these are fantastic ways of taking care of yourself! I have been working on my skincare routine lately to help improve how my skin looks.
self care is important, and giving ourselves a bit of tlc is something we should all do. Just taking a few minutes to put ourselves first
I’ve been pretty good with my morning and evening skincare routine and I use quite a few products. But this year I am trying to prioritise other things like using a body lotion more often an doing hair masks often x
I prioritise face creams these days just because I am getting older
Skin care is really important, but it will take some patience and testing to find the best combination for you.
It does take time, but once you find what works it is so much easier
I loom after my skin alot, but i need to spend sometime on my hair routine
I colour my hair so find it needs that bit of tlc and although for quick washes I do use a 2in1 I do like to give it a separate wash andd conndition as well
looking after oneself is so important – I do tend to hibernate in winter and notice my skin looks drab
I tend to hibernate as well but do love a bit of tlc
You can never go wrong with eating healthy. During the holidays I kinda lost my routine and did not mind my diet. I felt bad at that time but when you choose to eat healthily your conscience is clear.
I agree when you eat well you do feel better in yourself
I am one of those that neglects their feet. Not intentionally I just forget. I need to get some more foot cream that they’d really benefit from some extra moisture. I didn’t know you could get masks for your feet!!!
I hate my feet and used to neglect them terribly, I still am not a fan of my feet but do love popping a foot mask on and relaxing
Great ideas there, especially love the idea of not washing my hair for a few days as it tends to dry out. I also followed the link to the mdlondon which I love the idea of, so I’m going to put the idea in my husbands head for my birthday 😉
Great post as always!!
I have found that not washing your hair as often really has made a huge difference to my hair, I really need that hairdryer
Self care is something that we all should practise more. In the winter time my hair and skin suffers so a little more TLC is good.
I find my hair and skin suffers a lot during the winter which is why I do love my little tlc sessions
I am another one that struggles comfort foods in winter!
I do love my comfort food
My skin can get very dry and flaky in the winter, I try and use an exfoliater and then moisturise every morning. I also use a good conditioner on my hair too.
