Which Thermostat is Right For Your Home?

A thermostat quite simply allows you to control the heating and cooling of your home. Perhaps you’re looking to get a new thermostat and your not sure which one to go for? In this guide, we will take a look at your different options to make that decision a little easier. The most basic types of thermostats are programmable and non-programmable, let’s dive into consider these options first.

Programmable Thermostats

These thermostats let you set your own schedules for the temperature; your heating and cooling system is automatically programmed according to your preferences. Programmable thermostats are fairly energy efficient because you can set them to reach different temperatures for the times when you will be at home or away. Seven-day programmable thermostats allow you to set different temperature settings depending on the day of the week. Non-

Programmable Thermostats

With a non-programmable thermostat, you can only manually adjust the temperature. It’s not possible to set the temperature to change at different times. You always need to be present in the house if you wish to change the temperature on the dial. Due to the nature of non-programmable thermostats, these are not so suitable for people who are often away. You could end up wasting energy with these more traditional types of thermostats. Older homes will generally be fitted with such devices but if you are upgrading, it’s worth looking into some more modern options.

Wi-fi Based Thermostats

If you wish to go for a more hi-tech option, you can get a Wi-Fi thermostat. The great thing about Wi-Fi thermostats is that you have remote control over the temperature. You can programme them using a tablet or smartphone, for example. Unlike a standard programmable thermostat, you can control the heating when you are away from the house. Perhaps your plans change one night and you’ll be arriving home later than expected? With a standard programmable thermostat, you would have no way to reprogramme the settings. Using a Wi-Fi thermostat, you could reset the temperature using your phone. For this reason, a Wi-Fi based boiler thermostat is even more energy efficient.

Smart Thermostats

A smart thermostat gains intelligence about your habits over time. It uses your patterns of coming in and out of the house to achieve the perfect temperature. Most smart thermostats can be integrated with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can access your thermostat from your devices on the go to set and change the temperature. Options like Wi-Fi or smart thermostats allow you to achieve a greener option for your home. For this reason, when you are choosing a new thermostat, you’ll likely want to invest in the latest technology.

Conserving energy and living a more sustainable lifestyle has become increasingly important. We all need the options to heat and cool our homes, yet won’t want to waste energy as a result. With a Wi-Fi or smart thermostat, you could save money on your energy bills and protect the planet too.
