Top tips for choosing an engagement ring

Shopping for an engagement ring is an exciting time as you gear up for your proposal, but it can also cause feelings of pressure as you strive to make the perfect choice. After all, an engagement ring can be a big expense, plus it is a piece of jewellery that your partner is going to wear for the rest of their life. Luckily these days, there are more options than ever out there, so you’re sure to be able to find a ring that suits both your partner’s taste and your budget. Here are some top tips to help you out.

Know your partner’s ring size

One blunder that’s sure to take the romance out of a proposal is a ring that doesn’t fit! If you’re shopping for rings with your partner, it’s a good idea for them to get their ring finger measured professionally at a jewellery store. For those who are trying to keep the event more of a secret, see if you can surreptitiously find out their ring size from one of their friends. Many people don’t actually know their ring size, though, so you might have to enlist some help to get them measured without letting on the reason why!

Choose ethical stones

There have been a lot of news stories over recent years about the ethical issues involved in diamond mining, from human rights abuses to environmental destruction. The resulting pressure from consumers has led to a shift in the industry to focus on sourcing their diamonds ethically, including the option to buy stones that were created in a laboratory. When buying your engagement ring, be sure to opt for one that only uses stones that have been ethically sourced and are traceable.

Pick a ring that matches your partner’s style

This is perhaps the most important factor. You want your partner to fall in love with their engagement ring as soon as they see it, so make sure you choose a style that is perfect for them. That means not getting caught up in what’s trendy or what’s traditional, but rather thinking about what kind of design they personally would like. If you’re not sure where to start, a quality jewellers such as Regal Jewellers will be more than happy to talk you through all the different options. From the colour of the band to the style of the setting, plus the size and cut of the stone, each part can be customised to create the perfect ring. Don’t forget to check what it looks like on, not just in its box!

Don’t feel pressured to spend too much

budget

The whole notion of having to spend one, two, or even three months’ salary on an engagement ring is nothing more than a clever marketing ploy. The true value of an engagement ring is in its meaning, so don’t feel under pressure from others to spend more than you can comfortably afford. Many people actually prefer the look of more understated and less flashy jewellery too, so it’s not the case that bigger or more expensive is better!

It is a hard thing not to be pressured into spending too much, not that we can actually afford to get married at the moment but people love to show off their expensive rings.

It is hard not to feel pressurised into spending more, but in reality it should be affordable and not expensive and flashy it is what it stands for more than how big the stone is
