My Week

This Week

Health

We have had a week of it with my poor Dad. He was booked to have an operation yesterday for mouth cancer. It was agreed he could go in at midday. Monday I had popped out with C and my mum rang in a panic as the hospital had rang and he should be there. I spent nearly 3 hours trying to find out what is going on. It then turned out he was due midday yesterday.

We got there at 11 and told he was 2nd to go down. He had been on water only since getting up with his last hot drink and food before he went to bed Monday night. They saw the anaesthetist who confirmed he was next. I had to leave at 2 ish to pick C up from college, and dad told mum to go as well as he would be going down soon.

Still waiting

I rang at 5.30 and he was still waiting, the guilt we felt having left him there. I rang again at 7.00 and he was just going down. To say I was fuming as he had just had water all day, none of his medication. Where someone who was told his surgery had been put back to 6pm was given a nutrient drink. We rang again at 9.30 and he was in recovery and would be moving to a ward in an hour or two.

This morning he is sitting in a chair, mum is going up after lunch and I am going up with C once I pick her up from college. He was supposed to be in for one night, but looks like he wll be in again tonight.

Time Out

Last week I had two evenings out with my oldest friend. She recently lost her dad and we met up to give her a bit of a break. We also saw her the next evening as her local pub does bingo so we went along. I did not win, but had a great time.

After the bingo we stayed chatting and we got onto our teenage years and we both laughed so much we were crying with laughter. I have not laughed like that since I lost my husband. Just for that moment I felt so happy.

Recipes

I have tried a new recipe and it will be coming soon. At the moment I am all over the place and really not had much chance to do anything. I do get so much pleasure out of trying new recipes that actually work and taste great.

Budgies

Milo

Last week I shared how we had lost Pesto. I did tell C that as she will be going to university, and I will be left looking after them, we will not be getting more.

Fast forward to Friday, Willow the baby we hatched was so down. She was really unhappy and showed no joy in anything. So we agreed to look for another. Saturday, we headed to someone local who was selling budgies and we got Milo.

Depending on the light he either looks green or grey. He is an English Budgie and very noisy. C has been trying to get him used to us and yesterday he was stepping onto her. I went in and had some millet and looked down and he was on me.

Tattoo

Last week, I shared that by chance C had got a print of Pesto’s footprints. On Thursday morning she had me out as she made an appointment for the tattoo. It is now on her shoulder a permanent reminder

  1. I missed this post. What a lovely reminder of Pesto. Pets are always in our hearts but a tattoo of his little feet is a perfect way to remember him.

  2. It is good that you were able to make time with your friend and have some joy. It really sounds tough – I hate when hospitals move things around and don’t inform people!

    1. It was lovely and what both of us needed as well. It is her dads funeral today and I can not make it sadly. I did feel so guilty for leaving my dad but he is home now thankfully

  3. hospital mixups are incredibly draining when you are already worried about surgery. i am glad you found a moment to laugh with your friend after everything. you deserve that happiness.

    1. My poor dads op was very brutal he has managed to eat a little smooth food this morning so an improvement. I did enjoy our evening out even though I did not win bingo

  4. So sorry to hear about your dad, that must have been a tough day for him and you guys, but I’m glad he managed to have his op. Such a cute idea for C to get the tattoo, forever with her x

    1. Honestly it was a nightmare and sadly when I needed to be in two places at once. But we got through it and dad is now home. The tattoo does look cute

  5. What an awful wait for your Dad. I hope he recovers quickly. It was good to see that you had a good time with your friend

    1. The wait was awful and we could not rest until we knew he was out of surgery which was just after 9.30pm so a very long day. Thankfully he is home now which is so much easier. I needed that laugh we had as not laughed like that in over a year

  6. I hope your Dad is doing okay, what a tough time. I am glad that C has the tattoo as I reminder, such a sweet thing to do. I hope you have a more relaxing end to your week!

    1. Dad was able to come home yesterday evening, he is very grumpy and having trouble swallowing but happier that he is home. The tattoo is very sweet although the tattoo artist and C was trying to get me to have one.

    1. Milo is such a cutie and is coming on to us now with a bit of a bribe, he is getting better and follows what the others are doing. Dad is home which is better for us all

  7. Oof. They really dropped the ball with your dad’s surgery wait. Maybe there was an unexpected operating emergency before him?

    1. No idea but he came home yesterday evening, which is good news for all of us especially me as it is an hours drive there and back just need the slow recovery to go well

  8. I can’t believe it’s already Easter, wow…Time really flies. I was so sad when you lost one of the budgies…Of course Willow was down…But now she will have a new friend Milo…I am happy for her.

    1. Easter is so close I keep forgetting. Poor Willow was very down we could not cheer her up until Milo came along who is so noisy I can hear him through the whole house

    1. Thank you, I just rang again to see how he was and if he mahy be home today. Apparently if he eats ok he can he is very fussy so hopefully we can get him to eat and he can come home today
