Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 23/07/2026

This week has been one of those weeks, I kept thinking Tuesday was Wednesday. So when Wednesday came along I was more than ready to write my weekly post. However, I had a problem with my site and it would just not load for me. My hosts could not see the problem and kept asking me to try various things, until they realised it was their side. I was just thankful it was nothing I had done. So a day late it is time for my weekly Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 23/07/2026.

My Week

This Week

Health

I will start with Dad, a week out of having radiotherapy, we had a check up appointment on Monday. He is doing a lot better than he was but still a long way to go. I literally found out about half an hour ago he is not doing part of his exercises for his mouth. So treating him like a naughty child and nagged him. I have even asked him if he is doing them daily and he says yes. Now I have told him to do them 3 times a day

I have been emailing C’s Neurologist as we are getting told different things each message, well since May really. She currently is suffering side effects from so many different medications. Plus now on nothing and is really suffering. This has also kept me busy all week.

Grief

I finally had a skip delivered and have started the process of sorting out my little bedroom. This room has just been used to chuck all sorts in since my husband died. At the moment I have a huge pile of his suits and coats, plus I found the shirt he died in. It was all cut where they worked on him and still smelt of him. That stopped me in my tracks totally. It is coming up to 18 months and I seem to miss him more and more each day.

As for the sort out, I have so many bags dotted around, from bedding to sort, piles of my husbands clothes and shoes I can not get rid of yet. I have found some clothes of mine stored away I had forgotten about though.

What I Am Loving

Piccolo Bone Broth

Bone Broth

Bone Broth has been loved for years. Now Piccolo has partnered with Waitrose to launch Europe’s first bone broth created specifically for children, giving parents a simple new way to add protein and goodness to everyday family meals.

Launching in Waitrose and via Piccolo online, the broth is made using organic ingredients and contains:

  • 2.9g protein per 100ml
  • 1.3g collagen per 100ml
  • Low salt recipe, with no added salt developed specifically for children
  • Gluten free

Ready to use straight from the pack, the broth can be stirred into pasta sauces, soups, stews and casseroles, fruit and veg purees, used in home cooking or added as a hidden nutritional boost during picky eating phases.

  1. It’s good to know your father is doing well now. I have never heard about Piccolo bone broth looks health for children will check it out for my children. Thanks for the recommendation.

  2. It’s hard when we have to parent our parents – even more so when you have so many other things to juggle. Don’t forget to look after yourself too.

    1. Bone broth is good especially if under the weather or just adding nutrients to a meal. I am doing better at the sorting than I thought I would

  3. Just take your time and be gentle with yourself. Going through a loved one’s belongings is never easy. I went through the same thing after losing my mom. It’s been almost three years, and I still haven’t found the strength to finish sorting through all of her things. Grief doesn’t follow a timeline, so give yourself all the time you need.

    1. I just can not get rid of any of his things at the moment I am just piling it all up again it is mostly a lot of my stuff and old bedding I am getting rid of

  4. Really pleased to hear that your dad is slowly improving since finishing radiotherapy. Just try and sort a couple of things a day for the skip and you will slowly get there

  5. I am hearing about the Piccolo bone broth for the first time and the ingredients it contains are super healthy for children. Thank you very much for the recommendation.

  6. Good luck with filling the skip. It must have felt like your heart had exploded in your chest when you got to your husband’s cut shirt. However, there will be clothing from which others would benefit so donating them to a cause you think he’d approve of should help both with your grief and your space.

Although you’ve been up to your eyes in hospital visits, I wondered recently if you’ve had a chance to do any baking. I previously enjoyed seeing what you’d baked and trying out the recipes.

    1. I am getting there slowly with the skip just doing a little bit each day. At the moment it is rubbish or donating a lot of my old clothes really that I will never wear again.

I do want to start baking again, I just have not had the time to do it

  7. I’m glad that your Dad is doing well lovely, and I’m glad you’re nagging him to do those mouth exercises, especially as they will help!

    1. I am glad he is getting better as well, but honestly after chatting with him yesterday he did one set of mouth exercises. So last night I had a right go and told him he will never get reconstruction in his mouth if he doesn’t do them to help himself. C stood there laughing as it was just one of those moments

  8. I did the same thing when my husband passed last year. I put everything in the room he used for his office and finally decided I couldn’t leave it like that anymore. I gathered all the items he wanted his family to have picked up. Lots of tears while doing that project, but it had to be done. Hang in there. Widowhood is part of our lives now and we must carry on.

    1. This is a huge step but one tiny step I have needed to make. Once I have sorted all the rubbish in there I will be in a better place to deal with his belongings.

  9. I am so glad your dad is doing much better. Radiotherapy is a tough one, and he’s handling it like a hero, amazing….Wish him well from me.
