Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 09/07/2026

We have made it through another week, and yes I know I am a day late again. It has been another one of those weeks where I get nothing done fast. Which means it is time for my weekly round up Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 09/07/2026.

My Week

This Week

Heat

This heat is back and back to the 30’s, I am really not made for this weather. How are you all coping and staying cool?

Health

My Dad has two more radiotherapy sessions, it has been a very long and hard 6 weeks. The arguments have not stopped though we had his weekly check up yesterday and he has lost weight. I make him a smoothie everyday and they have asked me to increase and he has two a day. It is not fun for dad as he has lost his taste as well due to a side effect.

C is still struggling and we are still waiting for the new medication to come through, only been three weeks since she had her appointment.

A Little Job

Last week while scrolling through Facebook, I came across a post in a local group looking for someone for the next 4 weeks to help at a doggy day care. I shared it with C and she messaged them. They rang and chatted and told her they would let her know by end of the day on Friday. They rang at lunchtime to let her know she was hired.

It is only for 4 weeks, she is loving it, they are also loving having C as I see them when picking her up and they tell me how great she is.

Butterflies

I spoke about butterflies last week. How I saw them as a sign of someone you love being near to you. The other afternoon I was stuck in roadworks and a butterfly came fluttering up to my car and just kept hovering around. I then said Hi Bry and it did a little flutter and then flew off. I do think there is something in this belief.

  1. I’m not a fan of summer. I use a few things, rechargeable fans, cooling mists, half filling up water bottles and leaving it in the freezer overnight for refreshing icy drinks and sleeping on top of the duvet

  2. I bought a new decent fan this year which has really helped with the heat. On really hot days I keep the windows and curtains closed until the evening which helps too.

  3. For the first time since I was young I started buying tip tops to store in the freezer for my family and it’s been a game changer. Honestly forgot how good these are and they are so easy to stock up on! The nostalgia haha

  4. keeping the blinds closed, using a fan, putting a cold compress on pulse points and most importantly keeping hydrated.

  5. I have the fans going constantly at the moment but it’s still hard to keep cool on the really hot days. Other than that, it’s keeping hydrated and wearing loose clothing. An ice lolly also helps

  6. I love your butterfly story above, as I feel that way too. With regards to keeping cool, it’s a tough one. I have a cooling blanket for when it gets too hot at night but my son has decided he likes it, so I’ll have to buy another one now lol.

  7. I am not good with the heat so its curtains drawn, lots of ice pops, fans and cooler on, dress lightly and if needs be a cool wet towel for me and the dog!

  8. I’m up North so hasn’t been too bad here but I have my trusty air con unit near my window if it gets bad 🙂

  9. I’m not. But I’m not going to moan about it as I spend most of the year feeling freezing cold (Gotta love Reynaud’s).

  10. Dressing lightly. Keeping the curtains closed. Using fans.. electric and hand held. Drinking lots of water

  11. Close the curtains and windows before it gets too sunny. Leave the back windows open because they get no sun. Have a fan blowing.

  12. We bought neck fans when we went to Spain a couple of years ago. They’re coming in very handy this summer!

  13. i keep the curtains cosed innt he day and use a frozen hot water botte on my feet to cool doown

    1. Keeping cool by wearing linen, a wet straw hat (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!) and staying in the shade between 1pm & 4pm

    2. Keeping cool by wearing linen, a wet straw hat (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!) and staying in the shade between 1pm & 4pm

    1. Keepimg the curtains closed during the day and freezing got water bottles to have in bed at night.

  14. I’m keeping cool but keeping the blinds closed during the day otherwise the upstairs of my house would be like a sauna 🥵

  15. This heat has been absolutely brutal! I have been struggling so much, even with an aircon downstairs. It is so good that C Is doing a job she enjoys – it sounds like a fun one for her.

  16. I’ve been drinking lots and sitting in the garden shade at regular intervals throughout the day

  17. Keeping the curtains closed on the sunny side of the house, plenty of cold drinks from the fridge

  18. Congratulations to C on landing the job at the doggy day care! I’m so happy to hear that she’s loving it. I worked at a dogy day care before too, and it was such a wonderful experience. Spending a day with those adorable furballs hardly felt like work.

  19. I’m not reallllly keeping cool but my attempts to! – cooling towels on my shoulders, windows open at cooler times of day and closed when it heats up. Curtains closed! Two Bush fans on full power near me constantly! I wish I could say in a cold paddling pool but I unfortunately don’t have a garden!

  20. Another butterfly visitor? How wonderful!

So pleased to read that C is enjoying her doggy day care job and they are enjoying having her. Let’s hope that another opportunity arises on a future date.

I love the heat. Waking in the early hours to birdsong and a clear blue sky and, as the day progresses, being enveloped by the warmth of the sun. It’s a gift from mother nature. OK, two baths or showers a day along with a change of clothing usually required but that’s quite nice, too.

    Have a good week.

    1. I did love my little butterfly visitor and it made me smile. C is loving her little job, but does love to make me feel jealous as she sends through pics of the dogs.

I am loving going out first thing when the air is cooler, not so much late afternoon evening though when it gets to hot and stuffy

  21. Staying indoors during the heat, curtains closed. Using fans. Definitely not cooking a roast this Sunday.

  22. Keeping the curtains/blinds closed in the day, fans and a portable A/C unit, and drinking lots of water!

  23. I’m not unfortunately. The windows and curtains are shut and the fans on and it’s still like a sauna in our house! I look forward to the cooler weather again

  24. I am learning how to keep my house cool with opening windows at certain times of the day and making sure the curtains are closed when there is direct sun at that side of the house

  25. Keeping the windows and thermal lined curtains closed on the sunny side of the house.
Our house is very well insulated and therefore retains all this heat!!!!!!

  26. I don’t cope well with the heat outdoors but am fortunate to have a north facing living room (I don’t say that when it’s cold!) It’s a very relaxing space and I have made the most of my time in there reading, catching up with a lot of admin and entering competitions. It has been great to be comfortable without the need for a fan.

  27. You’ve actually been on my mind with this heat. I have a British friend, so I know most homes don’t have AC because it’s usually not needed. Try to stay cool!

  28. Cooling towels! Ones that have the technology to cool you. Wetting them with cold water and lying them on your legs cools your whole body. I have heat intolerance and my body cannot regulate temperature so these are perfect!

  29. Im keeping cool by using a fan I bought in Home Bargains a while ago. Its got a trigger on it that sprays cold water and its very refreshing and cooling

  30. It is awesome that C got a job, that is great. Even if it was for a short period of time, that’s still a great opportunity to meet new people and make some money. I am happy for C.

  31. Keeping th windows and curtins closed on the side of the house where the Sun is for a start!
Also bladed fans and a Tower Fan.

  32. I’m avoiding going outside unless it’s completely necessary and am using a handheld electric fan indoors.

  33. So,pleased C has got a job that she’s enjoying. I’m not made for heat either I like to sit outside but always in the shade
