Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 21/01/2026

Here we are at Wednesday yet again, which means we have made it through another week and another weekend. This means it is time for my weekly Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 21/01/2026.

My Week

This Week

Grief

With less than 2 weeks to go until the one year anniversary. Emotions seem to have heightened and both myself and C are struggling.

C broke down in college the other day and sobbed her heart out. I felt so bad that I was not there for her.

When she got home, we had a long chat and decided we both needed grief counselling. We both agreed we finally felt ready for it. I did look online but C wants face to face and I said I would probably prefer that option as well. Sadly we could only find telephone or video call options so I contacted our GP for a referral.

While writing this I just got notification the ring C chose for her dads ashes is ready and being sent today.

Health

I mentioned last week C is struggling with a pain that is doubling her up and also making her feel nauseous, even drinking water. She had tests done and yesterday the results came back ok. So still no idea what is going on. All I do know is she is barely eating, which is really stressing me out, not knowing what she wants to eat and believe me I have offered everything you can possibly think of. So now waiting for a drs appointment.

I am wondering though if it could be grief and/or stress related as well.

Budgies

Kiwi

I thought I would give you an update on Kiwi. He is still on his antibiotics and does sleep a lot but also has a lot more energy.

As you know we rescued him and he was obviously attacked as his wings are damaged and he can not fly. C also thinks he had trauma to his brain as he has no survival instincts in him and is such a sweetheart.

The other morning, I went in to see C and I did not see she had him out. He sprinted down her bed to see me.

C has been putting Kiwi in the main cage with the other 8. He has learnt to make the angry noise but uses it when they sit near him not for anger. He has been getting on really well and C is convinced he is the boss. As the two main girls, even move out of his way. Last night C decided to keep him in the main cage all night for the first time. As we have been putting him back in his cage. He got on really well.

What I Am Loving

Toe Zone

We all know having kids means we are always having to buy something for them as they grow. Toe Zone have their footwear all sorted.

Like us, kids need a variety of footwear –

  • School Shoes
  • Winter Boots
  • Summer Shoes
  • Wellies
  • And more

For me I like to get quality shoes that will protect my childs feet as they grow. I know that uncomfortable shoes make me miserable. So, having my children in footwear that protects their feet and are affordable is a bonus.

Galentines Day

Galentines Day

I mentioned last week, that this year I will not be sharing a Valentines Day Gift Guide. This year on my daughters suggestion I am compiling a Galentines Gift Guide.

This is such a lovely idea, and something that is not just seasonal but all year round. I will be sharing my guide soon.

  1. Lovely to see a pic of Kiwi and read that he’s doing better. You and C are fast becoming budgie experts.

No wonder you are worried about C. You have more confidence in the NHS than I do but it’s often worth reading about health and healing at the same time. Twenty years ago I might have considered some writers a bit woo woo but, these days, there is a very scientific and evidence-based approach to what they write. I’m currently reading Joe Dispenza as he is accessible and interesting but there are others worth exploring.

All the best to you both.

    1. Thank you, I need to do an update on Kiwi this week

I am worried about C but she is doing well in trying all the tips our Dr gave her last week. We went shopping yesterday for lunch and meal items for the week

    1. That is a lovely idea last year I was still doing a Valentines Guide sadly we did not get Valentines together. So this year it is all about the girls

  2. Sorry you are having such a tough time but I hope the grief counselling will help you both. It is such a worry about C’s health

    1. Thanj you I think we are both at the stage now where we are ready to accept the grief councelling. We had another Dr appointment and trying a few different things to try and help C with her pain

  3. Thank you for sharing an update. I am grateful to learn more about you, and hear about what is going on in your life. I hope that this week has been amazing to you!

    1. C did see the dr yesterday and I did go in with her as I am so worried about her eating due to pain etc. She did agree it can be stress and grief related alongside the Gastritis. But we have a plan and we sat and chatted last night about meals she can eat and to do what the dr said and little and often and dont worry about huge meals at the moment

  4. Pleased to hear that Kiwi has perked up. I think grief counselling is a good idea. Hope C feels a bit better soon

    1. Honestly he is so cheeky and so funny how he makes the angry noises at the others and just refuses to move. I think we are both ready for grief counselling and it will help us hopefully move forward.

  5. I always love hearing about your budgie. He sounds like an adorable little goober, just like my dog. I hope he finally gets better!

  6. I really hope you manage to get to the bottom of C’s health concerns. I bet it’s an anxious / stressful time for you both. I’m glad you have galentines to look forward to. That’s such a lovely idea. I’ll have to keep an eye out for your blog post.

    1. Thank you, we are just back from the drs with a few suggestions so stopped at Tesco also for food ideas that she gave us as I am losing the will to live with everything I suggest I get a no or I don’t know response

  7. I am so glad the kiwi is getting better. Having good energy is definitely a good sign, and that he is adapting quickly. I hope he is fully recovered soon.

  8. Sorry to hear you’re both struggling emotionally,i had grief counselling and it really does help,so i hope you’re not waiting long to start it x

    1. Neither of us have felt ready until now, and we both are at the stage we do think it will be beneficial to us. I am more worried about C and protecting and helping her through this my grief comes after
