Grief

grief

Losing my husband has been the hardest thing to cope with. However, grief makes people react in very weird ways. My middle one (my youngest stepson) issued a tarrad of vile and hatred to me all over the weekend. It came to a head and he blocked me. After I bit and came down hard on him as I was still getting over yet another panic attack caused by him. I have said to C it is now strangely calm.

I have just spent all morning talking to my eldest stepson, as his brother has now got in his head. His partner was there and I think and hope between us we have got through to him. I did also warn him I will be checking in a lot more

Trip Away

Trip Away

I was talking to C a few months ago, that we will need to look for a night away. Starting with small steps and building up. Like me she loves history and said about Hever Castle. She went when she was little, and they have a B&B.

Sadly, it has been booked up, but when checking last Friday, I noticed that they have one room which must have been a cancellation. So I booked it for this coming weekend. Just one night and just the two of us and I am switching my phone off so no one can get hold of me. Wish me luck as still feeling a bit wobbly about going.

Whats New

Giraf

These days there are a lot of alternatives to milk on the market. Believe me C has tried them all I think. If you do have an intolerance these have made a huge difference.

Recently I was contacted to ask if I would be interested in trying Giraf Macadamia Milk. This was a new one to us so of course I said yes. The milk comes in three varieties – we chose the original

  • Original: Light, smooth, and lower in calories and sugar than skimmed milk
  • Oat Macadamia: Even creamier, perfect for indulgent lattes
  • Unsweetened: With 4% macadamias and zero added sugar it’s ideal for sugar-conscious and keto

Giraf Macadamias Milk is new to the UK and totally different to those we have already tried. It is creamy and smooth. Made with premium South African-grown macadamias and completely free from added seed oils – a rare find in a category crowded with watery, chalky, or overly processed options.

I also gave my friend one to try, as she does love her variety of milks. It was great in cereal and tea but we both found it didn’t look right in coffee. After a bit of research there is something that reacts with coffee but saying that it does not affect the taste as well.

Unlike most plant milks, Giraf achieves its creamy texture without added seed oils or vegetable fats. Instead, it uses the natural richness of macadamias – a superfood packed with healthy fats and essential nutrients – to create a velvety mouthfeel and subtle, satisfyingly rich flavour. It contains no dairy, no gluten, and no artificial flavourings.

Giraf Macadamia Milk is sold in 1L ambient packs via Amazon and the Giraf website.

  1. Death and grief can bring out new sides of people – it’s a shame your step sons aren’t banding together with you and are having issues themselves. Hopefully your road trip will help keep your mind off of it.

    1. Honestly, between them they have not made it easy for me or C to be able to grieve fully. The weekend away was just what both myself and C needed

  2. Thank you for the intro to Giraf macadamia milk. I’ve not seen it but will keep an eye out. For those of us who will not, or cannot, drink cow’s milk, finding a tasty and healthy plant-based option is surprisingly difficult.

I hope you and C have a fabulous break this weekend!

    1. In the whole 5 months since I lost my husband I have had to deal with drama and upset. Now I am concentrating on myself and C as we deserve and need to be able to start to grieve and move forward. We do have a night away this weekend small steps but we are b oth looking forward to it

  4. Macadamia Milk, I’ve never heard of this milk alternative before. I would love to try it. I am not sure I would be able to find that same brand Giraf but maybe something similar. I am so excited about it.

  5. Grief can course people to lash out,but it’s not a nice thing when it happens.Hope you and C enjoy your night away

  6. I’ve tried the alternative kinds of milk and not keen – i stick with skimmed in small amounts

  7. Have a fantastic night away. Just googled it as I hadn’t heard of it before and it looks gorgeous there!

  8. That trip sounds like just what you and C need. I hope you can get some much-needed peace and time together.

  9. Grief can make people do some crazy things, but it is never okay to take out your sorrow on someone else. I hope he gets his act together.
