Once a week, I write a round up post of discussing my previous week, as only a menopausal mum can. A little late on last weeks post, and will not be writing one this week. I will be away on Thursday, which I will talk about further down. Read on for my Diary Of A Menopausal Mum – 31/01/2021.
Now to catch up, how has your week been?

Health

My health is still the same so no updates from me. I think I am just going to sit it out now and wait for my NHS appointment in March.
Last time, I update on C and her abdominal pains. We are still waiting on her ultra sound scan which I chased today. Her pain has got worse, she is clutching her right side when walking and can only sit or lie in certain positions. We are monitoring her all the time, but it is looking more and more likely, that I am right with appendicitis. Sadly, they will not operate until they burst now. Which is scaring me to death, as also know how dangerous this can be.
Work

I mentioned last time, that I finally took the step to change my WordPress site from classic to the new block system. I am finding it surprisingly easier than I thought it would be.
I have also been having back end issues, which I have spoken about in blogging groups. It does seem a wide spread problem so good to know it is not just me.
Mothers Day

My lovely daughter in law, rang me last week to ask if she can take us out for Mothers Day. A lovely surprise and obviously said yes. This year I will be celebrating with my Daughter in law, my Mum, C, my Mother in law and my Daughter in laws Mum. Plus my two gorgeous granddaughters.
I have also started work on looking for gift ideas, for my Mothers Day Gift Guide. I will be sharing this with you all soon.
I have been spending

C has had her bed for about 7 years now. We updated her mattress last year, but recently she has been complaining of her bed creaking. After a lot of searching, I honestly think I looked at every bed shop online. We opted for this bed with storage drawers in silver crushed velvet. The bed should have been delivered yesterday, but delayed until today due to the storms.

We currently have a corner sofa which I hate, the cushions come off as soon as you think about moving. Plus it is very low and my legs start to ache of sitting for too long. We have been looking at sofas for a long time now.
From two 2 seaters or a 3 seater and chair. My husband has always loved Chesterfields, I told him we would not be having one. I wanted something I could sink into and get comfortable with. We went around furniture shops, I tried Chesterfields and found them to be comfortable. Plus with a few cushions (my next spend) will be ok.
Trips Away

For my husbands birthday a couple of weeks ago, I treated him to a nights stay in an Executive Suite in a London hotel. The suite was lovely, but everything else from reception staff, to restaurant food and staff were awful. Plus no means to make drinks in the room as broken, and apparently no room service due to Covid since December. This was not a cheap hotel, and totally felt miserable when we left. I read reviews when we got home, and a few people had complained about similar and lack of contact after.
I went onto Linkedin and found the CEO and messaged him. He was very apologetic, and we are back again on Thursday for a complimentary stay. I will update again next week with hopefully a happier story. I do moan about bad customer service, but equally do love to share about good customer service.
Another hotel story
We had another night away, on Saturday meeting up with friends who are not local. 7 am yesterday morning, an alarm went off and woke the whole hotel. My husband got up to check it was not just faulty in our room.
We all ended up outside on a freezing January morning, while they tried to locate the fire. A member of staff had a list and and a megaphone and started doing a check to see everyone was out safely. He started calling names, with half the people not there. He just skipped these not making a note and carried on. Then said thank you everyone, and walked off, our names and a lot more people had not been called. Luckily the fire was caught and we could all go back in a while later. But if it had been serious, what about the people who did not say they were there. Or us and the others who apparently were not there. On checkout they did not even apologise for the disruption. I have never been in a fire evacuation before and hopefully will not again.
How has your week been?

Souns like you have a special mothers day planned x
I do and really can not wait
Hope the bed arrives soon, we love our storage bed. The Mother’s Day plans sound wonderful
The bed is here and made such a difference, I am looking forward to Mothers Day
Sound like a good trip and great for mothers day!
I am still trying to get my head round blocks – I am using classic editor on my main site although use blocks on some of my others!
I seem to be doing ok so far, keep thinking something is going to go wrong
Such an interesting week indeed, luckily the fire was caught and you have Mother’s Day to look forward too. The Chesterfields sofa is one of our favourite as well
It was a week we wont forget, and am really looking forward to Mothers Day. I did finally give in as more comfortable than I thought
Wow, I’m shocked about the London hotel. It is awful that you had to track down their CEO to get another stay. This should have been offered automatically given the poor stay the first time. I hope the next trip is much better xxx
It was awful, and it was not cheap, but hopefully this will be a totally different experience this time
You haven’t had luck with those two hotels. but I’m glad you have a complementary stay at the other one, hopefully this one will be better. Hope C’s appendix’ don’t burst x
I know, but hopefully third time lucky. C is worse today I went onto 111 and they said speak to our GP. I rang not holding much hope but have a face to face appointment this afternoon. The poor thing. can not sit, lie or do anything and is barely eating
It sounds like you had quite a busy week, with a lot of things going on. It’s nice that you were offered a complimentary stay at that hotel, hopefully this time the experience will be much better.
It was a busy week, and looking forward to going back to have a hopefully more enjoyable stay
Well sounds like fun hotel trip to remember! Glad you’re embracing blocks on WP. I definitely love it now.
Well we will not forget it, I was half asleep saying what is it a fire alarm was not what I was thinking. I am finding blocks easier now
We really need a new bed, but finding one we like is proving to be an issue. I like the one you have chosen for C!
We wanted one with storage underneath and we did look at ottoman styles, we had one once and the frame does start to move so opted for drawers instead.
Do not buy a sofa from DFS! I have just had a bloomin’ nightmare with them and I’m not the only one by a long strecth according to social media! I am shocked by the news they won’t operate on appendix now until they have burst – that is shocking – clearly they can see C is in pain! I hope you get good news soon! Sim x
One of my friends was due delivery of hers last week from DFS, she had various notifications saying delivery date, she got rid of her old ones and then got sorry not able to deliver for a week or two. We did not order from DFS and just had notification it is being delivered tomorrow.
oh my, you are not having much luck with hotel visits are you. I’d be absolutely terrified with a fire evacuation, it’s a real big fear of mine. I really hope your next stay is better. Your Mother’s Day plans sound lovely.
We are not, but hopefully third time lucky. I am so excited for Mothers Day x
