What Does Balance Look Like For Me Right Now?

Today is day 20 of Blogtober 2026 and today the topic is What Does Balance Look Like For Me Right Now?

My life is definitely living up to my blog name of StressedMum. Honestly it is so hard to get the balance right and make things that little more even and calmer

Scales

As I write this post, things are far from calm. Life is very stressful at the moment so finding things to keep a balance is the key for me.

On One Side Of The Scales

I have my parents, as you know my dad had quite an intrusive surgery for mouth cancer and treatment. He got through all this great, but to get him through recovery has been a challenge. He is not doing his exercises, he is not doing as he should. This results in a lot of stress and arguing. My poor mum is struggling, and it is hard. I can see how much it affects her.

My life daily, is dealing with the fall outs, which the stresses. I am the one who has to keep having a go and I sound like a complete nag. I am there for my mum and try to make like as easy as I can.

But, I have no one there for me, I recently shared in an early Blogtober post, how last year I had to deal with a lot from my stepsons. I was never allowed to grieve, fast forward to this year, I have been all in on my dads health and recovery, my grief has been pushed aside again. I have not been able to grieve my husband, I have not had the support from anyone to be able to do this so it is all bottled up inside me. Which means occasionally, like today I blow and let it out, and then have to put a lid on it as it gets turned against me.

On The Other Side Of The Scales

To balance out my life and all the emotions above. I do need to step outside it. Which is where Biscuit comes into the mix, he is such a cheeky little thing (although he is getting a lot bigger now). He is naughty and very funny.

I can be working away, and he will jump up for cuddles just when I need them. If I go out he is so excited to see me when I come home, I have to sit and let him calm down for about 5 minutes.

He gives me that reason to smile, to get out the house and just gather my thoughts on my own away from stresses.

I have tried talking to friends and family (not C as she is dealing with her own grief, she knows I struggle and she knows I am always there for her). No one really asks how I am or if I do start to say they try to change the subject. So Biscuit is my person, I talk to him and he just listens which is what I need.

That is how I balance my life. Probably not ideal but it is all I have to work with at the moment.

What does balance look like for you?
