3 Signs Your Child is Attending a Good School

Choosing a school for your child is a big step for your family and a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Of course, there are certain things you will naturally consider, such as the location and inspection reports, but when it comes to your child’s academic progress it might not be as obvious as to whether your child is at the right school. I have teamed up with an independent school in New York to explore some of the other signs that you have picked a good school for your child.

Your Child is Enthusiastic

Your child’s performance in school isn’t just down to their grades, although this plays a major part. You should also consider how they’re doing in terms of sport and other extra-curricular activities. Are they enthusiastic when it comes to getting involved and trying new things? Do they talk to you about the upcoming events at the school, like plays or music recitals? You should also think about how they are progressing socially; do they have good relationships with their peers and teachers, and do they seem genuinely happy? Their cultural experience is just as important as their academic progress.

The Facilities Are Clean and Safe

Your child’s health and safety is of the utmost importance, so you should consider whether or not the facilities are safe and clean. The grounds should also be carefully maintained. A messy and unclean premise is unlikely somewhere that you would like to send your child.

Communication is Consistent

Consistent communication between parents and teachers is another sign of a good school, because you’ll want to monitor your child’s progress throughout the year, not just at parents evening. So, does the school send regular emails and letters to keep you in the loop? It’s also good for you to return the favour and keep the school informed of anything that might be going on in your child’s home life that could potentially affect their attitude or performance at school.
