What To Do With Apples

Day 28 of the Blogtober challenge is anything apples. As we have an apple tree in our garden, we have a ton of apples. Especially this year we seem to have got a whole lot more. I thought I would talk about what to do with apples, and how we store them. If we leave them fallen the dogs find them especially Max.

As our apple tree produces a lot of apples, there really is far too many to use at once. We peel and slice them and freeze them down for later use. We usually have enough apples to see us through the year, until we start the process again.

Apple Stew

apple stew or stewed apple

This honestly is not what it sounds, but something our kids have started when they were little. My mum always cooks up apples for apple sauce. She asked C when she was about 2-3 if she would like some stewed apple, and since then she has called it apple stew. Even now this is something she loves, and we still call apple stew.

Apple Crumble

A huge favourite in most families is apple crumble and custard. Especially at this time of year it is definitely one of those comfort foods we all crave.

Apple Layer Cake

In the late 80’s there was a cook book collection, and one of them was Italian cooking. It had a recipe for apple layer cake. It took time to make, as you had to peel and slice the apples. Then over a pan you would warm and hand mix the eggs, butte and sugar and then add the flour.

It took ages, but one of those recipes that was amazing, and the results were to die for. I have just tried googling to see if I can find it, with no luck. I do think somewhere we do have the cook book. I promise if we do I will dig it out and share the recipe.

What do you like to make with apples? Why not share your favourite apple recipe.
