The Rose By Brent Elliott Review & Giveway

While we are on lockdown many of us are rekindling our love of reading or gardening.  Or just finding more time to do the things we love.  If this is you and you love your garden I have a great book to tell you about.  The Rose by Brent Elliott, plus your chance to win your own copy.

I have always had a love of roses, and had white roses in my wedding bouquet.  They hold so many happy memories for me not only my wedding day.  Also of happy summers as a child in our garden or my grandparents gardens.  Roses have always been in my life in one way or another.

The Rose

The Rose

The Rose tells the story of the world’s (and my) favourite flower.  With 40 of the most popular roses, each with a picture and history of roses from the roses of the ancient world, to myths of the rose.  Before looking at a variety or roses individually.  With the book finishing with removable prints for you to frame if you wish.

Inside The Book

Marcechal Niel

The most successful Rose of the nineteenth century was almost certainly the Marcechal Niel, compared to any other rose.  It sold in greater quantities and for the longest period.  It also had the most column inches devoted to it in the press.

Scotch Roses

Scotch Roses

The deliberate cross-breeding of ornamental plants began towards the end of the eighteenth century.  Roses were one of the first categories of plants to be hybridized.

Difficult question, I love them all as long as they smell, if I have to choose would probably be mauve or pink
