Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 01/04/2026

Here we are at Wednesday again, in what I feel has been the longest week ever. This means it is time for my weekly round up Ramblings Of A StressedMum – 01/04/2026 on what has been happening in the StressedMum household this week.

My Week

This Week

Health

I mentioned last week about my Dad having his operation. He came home on Wednesday, with medication and a letter to our GP Surgery and request for a nurse appointment today to change the dressing on his skin graft area. I rang on Thursday morning to be told no appointments until end of May. As you can imagine I was not impressed and asked what we are meant to do. As he had surgery and the hospital are requesting this. They found an appointment for today.

The nurse saw Dad today and changed the dressing, given a change of dressing for Friday and told him he can have a shower then. Plus made him an appointment for next Tuesday. These Dr receptionists are getting worse

I think I have spent the week, dealing with hospitals and appointments. Dad is having difficulty swallowing, and eating. So have been speaking to the speech therapist and dietician, plus the MacMillan Nurse.

Time Out

I have not had much time out this past week, due to my Dad and helping my Mum. I have been doing most of the cooking apart from Saturday where C chose a takeaway. This caused upset as I had told my Mum we were getting a takeaway that night but she went into sulk mode as she did not want it, but would not say what she wanted.

C and I have managed a couple of lunches out, which was nice and just the two of us to have some quality time together.

Grief

Tomorrow it will be 14 months since I lost my husband. It seems that a lot of people think I should be over it now. But my grief is still there I wake up with it, live through it all day, and go to sleep with it. I am still not sleeping properly either which is not helping.

I don’t know how you are supposed to let go and move on from the grief. My husband was fine and just collapsed no goodbyes, no plans nothing. Easter is days away, a time for family. This is where I want to hide away, as my family is broken and life is so different. One thing I have found from myself and from others you can not put into words how the grief feels.

I have started watching The Madison. A series where Michelle Pfeiffer plays a wife and mum who becomes a widow. It is the only program that has come near to the real emotions of losing your soulmate.

Recipes

recipes

I finally had the chance to try a new recipe and share with you. My Easy Shredded Chicken & Sweet Potato Wedges. This is so quick and easy and we have a portion frozen down for another day.

We have tried another recipe that C found but could not get all the ingredients so are going to try it over the weekend/ next week.

  1. It sounds like you’re constantly on the go at the moment, I hope you’re able to find just a tiny bit of time for yourself over the coming week. It must be tough caring for both parents as well as others x

    1. Honestly, I am starting to crack dealing with my parents is like dealing with toddlers at times. I did venture out on Saturday to meet a friend and have lunch and went out with C yesterday just to escape for a bit

  2. I am so glad your dad’s operation went well. Wish him a quick recovery. Thanks a lot for the recipe, I can’t wait to try it out.

  3. The shredded chicken recipe looked delicious! I don’t think people can understand grief until they have experienced it themselves

    1. The shredded chicken recipe was so easy and tasted amazing. Grief is so hard to explain just how it feels but I do find when watching The Madison it is the best description of grief

  4. Those that think you should be over it are most likely individuals that have not experienced the loss of a husband that they truly love. We never “get over” these types of things, they just get more manageable when it comes to coping with the loss over time xxx

  5. I really understand how the suddenness of the loss can make grief work. When I was 14, I lost my best friend. He got hit by a car, and that was that. No goodbyes or anything.

    1. That is so sad, I have had the conversation with my mother in law many times this past year. She lost her husband to cancer and watched him suffer. I argue that she got to say all the things she wanted too and they said their goodbyes. Whereas we were stolen from that and so many things unsaid and undone. Their are pros and cons to all of them

  6. I feel like losing him so abruptly must have made the grief so much worse. At least with something like an illness, you both have time to prepare and say your goodbyes.

    1. C told me I should stop as have watched through tears, but it really does portray how you feel and deal with the loss of your soulmate
