On a rainy Sunday afternoon, why not spend a bit of time in the kitchen to make something yummy to have with that cuppa. And to keep the kids entertained for a little while, We always find that when we are stuck indoors with nothing to do or nowhere to go because of the weather. We always find baking keeps us busy, which is why I am sharing our family favourite flapjack recipe.
I have always baked with the kids since they were little, everything from cookies and cakes to bread. I always have a cupboard full of baking ingredients so we are always prepared for a baking session. Plus they love sharing what they have made as you test them to make sure they taste just right before sharing with anyone else. This is now something my eldest granddaughter insists on doing whenever she comes to stay.

Why not get your baking hat on
Why not try my Easy Flapjacks? These are a firm favourite in our household and something the kids can make with their eyes shut. They are so quick and easy to make, and C’s friends love them when they come round to play. You have to be quick as they never last very long. Or I have found a lovely recipe for Date and Apple Flapjacks if you want something a little healthier.

These are so quick and easy to make.
Ingredients
250g Porridge Oats
125g Butter
125g Brown Sugar
2-3 tbsps Golden Syrup
How To Make
Pre heat the oven to 180 and lightly grease a baking tray, or you can cheat like me and use a silicone sheet.
Put all the ingredients into a bowl and mix thoroughly, spread onto the baking tray and cook for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Leave to cool and cut into squares and leave to cool on a wire cooling tray.
You can add other ingredients dried fruit, cherries, chocolate chips, nuts whatever you fancy, or dip in chocolate, or just serve as above. There is so much variations you can do once you have the basic recipe. They really do make a boring afternoon a bit more fun.
Why not separate the mix and do some plain, some with choc chips, some with fruit and do a taste test to see which is the favourite.
It never stops at just one item
Usually when we have a baking session, we will make my easy cookies as well, or cupcakes where the kids are let wild to decorate them as they want. Just make sure you grab a cuppa and have a break while they are finishing their creations. As remember who will be doing all the clearing up after. Plus there is always banana bread to make, as we always seem to have old bananas kicking around.
Are you going to give my Easy Flapjacks a try, let me know if you liked them.
If you have a family favourite recipe you would like to share and have featured, please drop me a message as we love trying new recipes.

Along with scones, flapjacks must be one of the quickest and cheapest baking treats for the family. A really good way to introduce children to the pleasures of baking.
I’ve never tried Date & Apple Flapjacks but I do like to vary a plain recipe. Apricots make a tasty variation.
I agree, although banana bread is not too bad and the kids love mashing up the bananas. I do love playing with recipes and adding different flavours and textures to a recipe
