We are now in the middle of November, so only a couple of weeks until we can start opening our advent calendars. To start the official countdown to Christmas. Which means it is not to early to talk about advent calendars.

How Advent Calendars Started
Advent calendars can be traced back to the 19th century. Advent calendars calendars originated in Germany. A man called Gerhard Lang is thought to have been the first producer of the printed Advent calendar, at the start of the 1900s. With the start of World War II, Gerhard was forced to close down his business,
Once the war ended Richard Sellmer created Advent calendars, that has a traditional winter scene. It was not until the mid 1940’s that the calendars were exported to other countries. It was not until 1958 that the first chocolate calendar was produced. With Cadbury joining in 1971.
Advent Calendars Today
Moving onto modern times, and you can get an Advent calendar for every theme you can think of. This year C has not 1 but 3 Advent calendars
Oreo

The Oreo Advent calendar has 25 numbered doors, where behind you will find a selection of milk and white Belgium chocolate covered mini Oreos. With each one decorated with a Christmas decoration. Oreos have always been a favourite in our house. Now more festive with their coating and little designs on.
Jewellery Calendar

I asked C recently, if she wanted an Advent calendar this year, to which she replied yes. Next question was do you want a chocolate or another themed calendar. After looking she decided she wanted a jewellery calendar. After searching I found this one on Wowcher.
Maltesers Advent Calendar

In my house there is a little tradition, where C gets her Dad and Granddad Maltesers as gifts. In return my Dad gets her a Maltesers Advent Calendar each year. She still expects it every year.
