TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF?

I’m Ben, from Gloucestershire. I currently work in IT but have handed in my notice to go self employed. I’ve decided to become a handyman, creator of custom and bespoke furniture and write Content for my blog.

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING?

My wife was already a keen blogger and I saw the potential to write about and share my experiences and make some additional income at the same time. Having great content and articles on my website was a great way to drive traffic to my website and online shop. I also love the engagement from my articles and knowing that I’ve helped someone achieve their own goals is very rewarding.

HAS YOUR BLOG CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED?

No much really. It did start off with a few extra categories but after a year or so I decided to focus primarily on the DIY and home maintenance aspects of the blog. This included ‘how to’ guides and general hints and tips for anyone new to DIY projects around the home.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FUNNIEST MOMENT SINCE STARTING YOUR BLOG?

I can’t help but laugh at some of the comments people leave on my blog posts. I’m talking of course about the trolls out there who don’t seem to have anything better to do than throw their negative thoughts at you. My response is alway no response to these people. I love to share them with my wife and we have a good chuckle about how miserable these people must be.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR WORST MOMENT SINCE STARTING YOUR BLOG?

I’m not sure I’ve had any low moments since blogging as I’ve not had to rely on it for an income. If I was more reliant on making money from my blog then that could be stressful.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEW BLOGGER STARTING OUT?

Just get going and start writing content. Aim to write at least a couple of articles a week. It’s good to create a list of topics and article titles that will keep you going. Keep adding to the list every time you think of something new and you’ll never run out of content ideas.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU ABOUT BLOGGING THAT YOU DID NOT REALISE BEFORE YOU STARTED?

I was surprise at how many people actually find my content interesting and useful. I didn’t think anyone would be interested in my work and interests. So it’s great that people visit and engage with me through my blog.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

I love spending time with my wife and kids, family days out and walks round the local area. I also love working on the garden and home improvement projects.

IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY WHAT WOULD YOU DO FIRST?

Buy a lovely house by the beach in Cornwall and another house abroad so we can spend winters in the sun ☀️

WHO IS YOUR BLOGGING HERO AND WHY?

My blogging hero is my wife Victoria. She is so inspiring and knowledgeable and intelligent. She inspired me to start my own blog and I’m glad she did as it will be something that stays with me for years to come.

  1. Cheers to Ben’s wife for being so inspiring in his blogging journey. I’ll agree that content is king: and we have to create more and more, better quality posts each week.

      1. That’s a pretty interesting interview. I am partly like him as a blogger. I feel that since it really isnt my main source of income I get to enjoy it for what it really is to me–a venue for sharing my thoughts

Writing has alway been an important part of life for me. And like Ben when I started blogging, what fascinated me about it was when people started reading and reacting to what I write.

        1. Blogging is such an amazing thing to do when it starts to get stressful if when I think I would leave it behind me and find something new

  2. I agree with the trolls leaving irrelevant comments on blog posts. It is so annoying! I guess I have to change my mindset and just dismiss it like these trolls probably did not have a happy childhood. This is something I learned from Ben. Just set the negativity aside and simply have a good laugh.

  3. A a blogger, just keep writing and don’t stress too much on the numbers. Write what you enjoy instead of the same boring topics making the rounds in your niche.

  4. Wow! I can imagine their dates. Sometimes, my ex boyfriend hates it when I take pictures of our food during dates. He can’t understand that I use it for my blog. I think having blogger boyfriend is fun!
