Keeping Active In The Winter Months

There is no escaping that the colder weather is here, and unlike the warm summer months where we love to be outside in the fresh air and sunshine.  During the winter the thought of going outside in the cold is not so appealing.  But can be so good for us, which is why I am looking at ways to keep active in the winter months.

We are all guilty of wanting to shut the cold weather out, preferring to snuggle up in the warm and watch a film together.  I recently wrote about keeping the toddlers active but what about the rest of the family.  Lets look at how as a family you can still enjoy the outdoors.

Walking The Dog

This is something the whole family can enjoy from the toddlers all the way to the adults.  We are lucky to live in a rural area where there are lots of woods and outdoor walks we can go on. Wrap up warm and head out as a family instead of just Mum or Dad walking the dog.

A Family Walk

Why not wrap up warm and head out as a family, you can make it into a game by seeing how many different leaves you can find.  Or retell the Gruffalo story and see if you can spot a Gruffalo.  See how many different wildlife animals you can spot.  Or make it into a competition with a fitness tracker for kids and seeing who takes the most steps. Or to get them moving more pop on some Heelys to see who can go faster or for longer.

Playing In The Snow

We all love to play out in the snow and all become big kids when it has been snowing.  Why not get out there and build a snowman, throw snowballs at each other.  Or head out to see if there is somewhere local to go sledging.

A Family Day Trip

Or head out for a day out London has some great options for fun family days out, whether it is visiting Winter Wonderland to seeing the lights.

  1. I like going for a walk at this time of the year when it’s brisk but is still dry, I need to see if I can get a walk in over the next few weekends before Christmas x

  2. It can be so hard to find the motivation to want to get active or even get outside when its cold, wet and windy but I do always feel much better once I have done it! One of our favourites is heading out for a family walk with the kids, wellies and waterproofs a must of course lol!
