How To Get A Better Nights Sleep

We all know the benefits of getting a good nights sleep, no matter what age we are. Sleep is important for our health and wellbeing. Especially for us women who are hitting their midlife stage, when you soon find out the struggles when the Menopause hits you. I think we all must have googled how to get a better nights sleep, at this stage. What better time to talk about this, as it is National Sleep Week.

You will have seen me talk openly about menopause and how it affects me, in my Diary of a Menopausal Mum, weekly posts. Although I try to keep to the light hearted side of it, and usually about my stupidity in the things I say. I have talked openly about my ongoing problems.

Menopause

We all hear about the menopause, as we grow older. Some women dread the thought of it, while others are bring it on. Some of the common side effects of the menopause is

  • hot flushes
  • night sweats
  • vaginal dryness and discomfort during sex
  • difficulty sleeping
  • low mood or anxiety
  • reduced sex drive (libido)
  • problems with memory and concentration

Hormones

Hormones are something we struggle with for years, and they seem to have a great leaving party as well. They play havoc with everything from temperature control to REM, which results in poor quality of sleep, loss of energy and increased anxiety. If you do suffer with this, two thirds of women going through the menopause, report having problems with sleep. Help is at hand as you can buy hormone supplements, which will help to reduce the symptoms.

“Sleep deprivation is a big problem for lots of women going through the menopause. Night sweats disrupt sleep patterns and we know that progesterone and estrogen levels decrease,” says Dr Marion Sloan, a GP from Sheffield and menopause expert. “Estrogen in particular plays a role in our sleep-wake cycle and in keeping our body temperature low at night.”

MPowered Women’s Sleep Survival Kits

To coincide with National Sleep Week, Dr Marion Sloan has teamed up with MPowered Women , the platform that helps women thrive in midlife, with health and wellbeing advice from experts and an engaged community of midlife women. She has developed a “Midlife Sleep Kit”, along with award-winning author and journalist, Rosie Green. Marion’s Kit contains White Company cotton sheets, whilst Rosie’s Kit includes Columbia Care Platinum CBD capsules which contain single strength, premium 10% CBD oil.

“We know from our community of women that insomnia is a challenge in midlife,” says Saska Graville, MPowered Women’s co-founder. “By sharing their Midlife Sleep Kits, Dr Marion and Rosie can inspire the rest of us with ideas for a better night’s sleep.”

Does CBD affect sleep quality?

“CBD is not a sleeping pill,” says Rosemary Mazanet, MD, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer at Columbia Care. It is not a tactical tool to be used if you are wound up and can’t sleep. “CBD modulates the homeostasis in the body providing relaxation and therefore sleep, says Rosemary, “While some people might have an immediate improvement in sleep, CBD needs to be part of your regime, people feel that after a week it definitely has an effect.”

With three products to choose from

  • Columbia Care Platinum Broad Spectrum Unflavoured CBD Oil (10%)
  • Columbia Care Platinum Broad Spectrum Peppermint CBD Oil (10%)
  • Columbia Care Platinum Broad Spectrum SoftGel Capsules (10%), taking CBD has never been better.
