Diary Of A Menopausal Mum – 20/07/2022

How have you all been coping with the heat? It really has been unbearable and tempers fraying. I have honestly never suffered this much before. Thankfully, today is cooler and perfect timing for my diary of a menopausal mum round up post.

Health

health

Poor C is suffering with her head at the moment, and not her migraines as they are under control. C also suffers with Idiopathic Intracranial hypertension or IIH for short. This was actually picked up by our Optician during a routine check up. What followed we never expected, she ended up with an MRI and lumbar punctures to relieve the pressure. Basically it is where fluid builds up around the brain and pushes on the optic nerve.

She has been complaining for a while of pressure headache and flickering eyes. Which has got a lot worse, I took her to our GP on Monday, who did no examination, did a referral to her Neurologist and if she starts throwing up or vision goes then go straight to A&E urgently. Not really helpful, so I contacted our Opticians and explained the above and she has an appointment this afternoon. I swear my daughter loves to keep me worried constantly.

Dentist

dentist

Last week, I share about the strong antibiotics my dentist put me on. I started them on Tuesday lunchtime, took my last one on Wednesday lunchtime, as I decided to take myself off them. I have never felt so ill, I was either feeling sick or being sick, stomach cramps and the taste in my mouth. It took me until Saturday to get rid of the side effects of them.

Still waiting for my urgent surgery, but touch wood no bad pain at the moment.

Heat

How hot has it been? I have never suffered so much. The other night my husband suggested sleeping downstairs as upstairs was like a sauna. I did manage to sleep on and off and it was a cooler thankfully, am so glad of our new sofa now.

Max 9 years ago with a wet t shirt

My poor dogs have been suffering and we have been doing all we can to keep them cool. Max is now an old man and been suffering. I put wet towels down on the floor hoping it would cool them down. Our German Shepherd layed on them, but my stubborn Max refused, until we put the towel on him and he loved it and it did help.

I am so thankful that it is cooler today, and can feel a slight breeze which is amazing.

Christmas

Yes you did read that right. In retail there is a thing of Christmas in July, where basically Christmas is sorted for the retail world.

I have been getting emails for weeks about Christmas. During the hottest days ever I have now started working on my Christmas gift guides.

  1. I am so with you on this na dI appreciate you informative posts. I am going through this myself and I can have bad days where I a a bit grumpy and the hot flashes… crazy!

  2. It has been a terribly hot week as well, and sleeping has been hard for us as well but luckily we have lots of fans in the house, glad the weather has cooled now

  3. Oh gosh the heat was CRAZY here! My room is in the attic and was like a furnace. So happy for the cooler temperatures now.

    1. I am glad it has cooled down as well, our bedroom was the same which is why we slept downstairs, can confirm our new sofa is great for that

  4. I loved the hot weather, but at night time I struggled. I wanted to sleep downstairs on the sofa, but my teenage son claimed it. I have also just started thinking about Christmas blog posts.

    1. It has been awful and I really struggled, and so glad it is coolerr now. I can not get my head around thinking about Christmas already, but it will soon come around

  5. The weather was terrible this week. I was really happy to go to work in my air-conditioned office!

  6. It has indeed been very hot and I struggled a bit as well. Sleeping in my bedroom was unbearable so the first night of the heatwave I tried sleeping downstairs, whilst the second I just put the tent up in the garden and slept there. That was really nice as the temperature was very pleasant during the night.

  7. I used to have that kind of migraine before until I found out that I have poor eyesight. I needed a pair of eyeglasses that helped me relieve my migraine.

During the summer heat, we put the dogs in their small pools with cool water and we also put some ice cubes in their water to help them feel refreshed. Summertime is really hard for pets.

  8. I had migraines in high school and my early 20’s. They resurfaced in my 40s. I had a full hysterectomy and they finally went away for good (some how I am supposing that is related). They are so very debilitating. I don’t miss them at all. Good luck to your girl!

    1. She is diagnosed with ongoing migraines which means she has them 24/7, she started having the injections and they made a huge difference to her

  9. The heat has been a bit crazy, but I feel so thankful that due to Luke and his dads work we do have AC units in our house so us and our cats have been okay. Hope C gets some answers from the opticians or neurologist x

    1. You are very lucky to have AC, I would have done anything to have that installed. We had opticians yesterday who did a very thorough check, and thankfully her optic nerve is ok and no sign of fluid build up. She has drops and new prescription for glasses as found a stigma

  10. Oof, antibiotics and heat aren’t a good combo! Its terribly hot here in New Jersey, too!

  11. We are having heat wave temps here as well. Fortunately we have AC and ways to cool off. I can’t believe how much fall and holiday stuff I have seen already!

  12. OMG, your mouth! I’m so sorry this is still going on. I hope it gets resolved soon. It is crazy hot where we are. I’m just staying inside as much as possible.

  13. Ugh! Yesterday was unbearable. Even sat still I had sweat dripping from me. Aww! Poor Max, that is a good idea putting a t-shirt on him.
Oh no! Poor C. I hope the opticians has helped. That doesn’t sound good about your antibiotics. You did right taking yourself off them. I am glad the pain isn’t too bad at the moment.
I got a couple of emails yesterday about Christmas related things and was in no mood to deal with them in the heat. lol I must get back to them. x

    1. It was awful wasnt it, I was the same and no matter how I tried could not cool down. Max loved having a wet towel on him. The opticians was great we have eye drops new glasses ordered and she looked and checked at the back of her eyes and went back from when it was first picked up and seems ok. Which is a huge relief.
I have started working on Christmas, it seems quite busy at the moment

  14. The crazy weather omg tell me about it…We’re melting lol…Heading to the swimming pool tomorrow, can’t wait.

    1. It has been mad hasn’t it, I popped out earlier with my daughter and it was much cooler then opened my car door and the heat hit us, luckily we have air conditioning

  15. The heat has been really bad in SE Texas, too. We’ve had most days so far this month topping out at over 100 with no end in sight. We keep getting notifications from our energy company to conserve energy and bump the ac up a bit to not use so much. I can’t imagine not having a good ac system in these temperatures!

    1. That is crazy temperatures, sadly the weather in UK is not usually like this to warrrant getting air conditioning but I would have gladly paid whatever the past few days to have it
