Diary Of A Menopausal Mum – 11/04/2022

We made it to the Easter Holidays, and a short working week this week as Friday is a Bank Holiday. Plus it is my birthday on Saturday so am looking forward to a relaxing and fun weekend. But now is time for my weekly Diary of a Menopausal Mum – 11/04/2022 post. Where I share the past week with you.

Broken Down

Broken Down

I forgot to share this with you all last week, and this is a very typical reaction from me. This may take a while so you might want to grab a cuppa.

On the Wednesday the week before last, C had an exam, I went out to my car to take her and as I turned the key it went to start and then everything went dead. No problem, we got out and I took her in my husbands car. Dropped her off and came home. C finished her exam and got the bus home (this is the same day as that the bus driver did not stop).

Early afternoon, I got a call from her Tutor asking if C was with me, and a very apologetic she had made an huge error. She had only given C one paper and could she come back down to do the second. No problem, so we went rushing out. Here is where the problems start.

I drive a petrol car, and it always drives ok on even a couple of miles left of petrol until I get to the petrol station. My husbands car a Diesel Range Rover is not quite the same as I found out. We had 18 miles in the tank so thought I would drop her down a couple of miles down the road and fill it up on the way back.

The fun starts here

The fun starts here

I drop C in the car park, and start to pull out and the car dies on me right in the entrance and exit and partly on the road. I ring my husband who is home (remember my car has died earlier in the day). While on the phone arguing with him, a bus driver is tooting me as he can not get past as there was workmen opposite, a woman knocking on my window asking if I was going to move and me getting more and more stressed.

A workman came over and tried to help and then got some of his work mates to push me back. I rang our breakdown cover and it had run out last October, so rang my husband back having a go. My best friend from school lives on the other side of where C was doing her exam, and asked if her son was around as he is a mechanic. He wasn’t but she came round to help me. We were both clueless and stood looking at the car, as C messaged to say she had finished her exam.

I told her I was still in the car park, so she met us there. My friend took C home and picked up my husband and the car had run out of diesel. So off we went to get some for him to fill it up. In my defence, all our other cars he says it is fine there is always some left, so I thought 18 miles is fine. He is still going on about it now.

My car is working fine now, for some reason and neither of us have any idea how it happened. The battery connector had come loose.

Sleep

sleep

Last week I shared how miserable we were with our new mattress, and that we were both waking up aching. I managed to arrange for a refund of this one, and ordered a new one the same as we got C a few weeks previously.

Our new mattress arrived last Friday, and we have bother had the best nights sleep for ages and wake up with no aches and pains. I am still waiting on the other one being collected which has been sitting packaged up for a week now.

Kids

kids

As you know I have three kids, the elder two are my stepsons and then we have C. You honestly think that when they get older they become less of a problem.

The eldest, contacted me on Saturday saying he was at Chessington and could he see us, as we live just up the road. With timings etc and not wanting him to miss out on time there. I arranged to meet him in the park between their and the station. We got there, and I called to see where he was and he said just at the lights walking down. He never turned up, or answered calls or messages. I contacted his partner who said he left her over an hour ago to meet us.

He is a compulsive liar, and caused so many problems over the years. She messaged when she got home saying he is home and said he had seen us, and that I had been angry and had a go at him regarding maintenance for his daughter. I sent screenshots of all the missed calls and messages, and that maintenance is nothing to do with me. He has now unfriended and blocked me. I know why as he knows he has been caught out and goes into hiding. He will sulk for a bit and then message again as if nothing has happened. He always does it, but I am angry for C. His partner has said she is trying to get him help as she can not keep going with him like this either. I have given her some inside information as to why he is like it, and his childhood so hoping she can get him help.

Giveaways

Win A Giant Bubble Set

I have a lovely giveaway that went live this week, to win a giant bubble set. Which will be great fun as hopefully the nicer days are coming to get out in the garden and see how big the bubbles will be. Plus I have another great giveaway coming soon for the garden.

How has your week been?

  1. We have recently bought a Sealy posturepedic firm ortho mattress and for under £400 for a king size, I think it’s the best mattress I got. It’s nice and firm which is just how I like it. Sadly even memory foam mattresses are still too soft for me so finding the right mattress is quite hard. Which brand did you go for?

  2. What an experience you have had! I have never driver a diesel car so would imagine at you had enough diesel for 18 miles. So glad your friend came to the rescue in the end.

    1. Part of my argument was that usually it is ok and how the hell am I meant to know a diesel is different. It gave me a good chance to have a catch up

  3. I am really looking forward to a short working week, fingers crossed for a sunny Bank Holiday weekend.

  4. Oh my gosh, what an absolute week!! It sounds like Easter couldn’t have come round sooner. Hope you have a lovely birthday on Saturday x

  5. Oh, that sounds like a bit of stress. I can’t also handle car problems, I don’t know much about cars that’s why I really struggle when there’s a problem with my car. By the way, glad you already have a better mattress.

  6. What a terribly stressful week for you. I hope things end on a positive though and that your eldest is able to get the help he desperately needs. Stay strong.

    1. He likes to play the victim and needs to understand he is not a child now but an adult and he needs to own up to things. Only he can do this with the right help

  7. I never believe what my car says about how many miles I have left, I panic at having like 30 miles haha, but I have a diesel car too. That must have been so stressful, but at least you had a friend nearby to help x

    1. I wanted to cry, my car had loads of petrol in it, just wasn’t starting. Luckily my husband got it started while me and my friend had a good catch up

    1. I like to write honest posts as I have always done, I also like to share that family life is not all fun and laughs, that there are hard emotional times as well. As that is real life

  8. What a week! I hope that going into Easter things become less stressful. I’m glad you found a good mattress!

  9. You have had quite a week. Sorry to hear about your eldest, god you are sleeping better now with the mattress.

  10. oh wow, you had quite a week…I can deal with almost anything except car troubles, I am clueless for real when it comes to cars…Clueless…

    1. I am clueless as well, I managed to open the bonnet which was a start and we stood there looking at the engine going what do we do now haha

  11. Oh my, sounds like quite the week! Car troubles have to be some of the worst. We don’t realize how much we rely on that transportation! I’m sorry your stepson is acting that way, hopefully he will come around soon.

    1. It was, I never run out of petrol that is one thing I used to pride myself on, but how was I to know that the miles it told me was not right I do not do car maintenance lol. He will he is just sulking as been caught out and knows he will get pulled up on it

  12. It all sounds pretty stressful and so not needed. I hope this week is better. We are already week 2 of half term.
