Bloggers Behind the Screens is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have encountered before, and learn a little more about them!
Bloggers Behind The Scene Featuring Mimi Rose And Me
This month, we’re talking to bloggers about the very thing that makes them bloggers. Their blogs.
When did you start blogging and why?
I first started my blog as a way to keep my brain from turning to complete mush whilst on maternity leave. I wanted to create a place for me to talk about my life as a mum to one and exploring all the adventures as a family of three. I felt as if this should be a place to talk about my journey into motherhood, and talk about the fact that it was probably one of the hardest things my husband and I have ever gone through. But being open and honest about our fertility struggles was really important for my blog and now a few years on and my life has completely changed and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
How did you come up with the name for your blog?
My daughter’s name is Amelia Rose and one day I called her Mimi and it sort of stuck. Even when I call her by Amelia she will reply ‘I’m Mimi Mummy!’ When it came to a blog name I knew that I wanted to use some of my daughter’s name as she would be the main inspiration and so Mimi Rose and Me just had a lovely ring to it and was about us.
What do you blog about? Has that changed from when you first started?
I can’t say that my blog has a niche. It focuses mainly on honest parenting, fertility issues, and life as a mama, beauty and food. But I do have a few travel and interior posts too. So it’s a bit of everything really.
Is your blog your job, your hobby or your side hustle?
Initially, I never really saw a future with blogging but a few years in and I blog professionally and it has become my full time income.
What is the best thing or experience that blogging has given you?
My little corner of the internet has done so many things for me as a person. It’s kept me focused, encouraged to chase my dreams and have a more positive outlook in life. I feel so lucky. I have got to know so many amazing and brilliant people from writing this blog and I would never had expected the blogging community to be so welcoming. But the community is everything.
What is your favourite thing in the whole world to write about?
I guess this one comes to no surprised as a family lifestyle blogger, but my favourite thing in the whole world to write about is of course my daughter. The high, the lows, the milestones and the adventures. My girl makes me a better person and has changed me in ways I never thought was possible. So of course she is my muse.
What skills (the more unusual the better!) has blogging taught you?
Hmmm, skills! Well for one I am fast when it comes to typing a blog post and it still amazes me how I can meet tight deadlines. I also love the fact that through blogging I have discovered a passion for photography. Sorry I’m not sure I have anything unusual to offer.
What is your favourite post from your blog? Give us the link and tell us why it’s your favourite.
I would have to say the post that I am most proud of would be this one on fertility. It was the one that made me feel so empowered and the amount of support that this post received was something that I never envisioned. It was post written for to share my feelings as I feel it’s quite cathartic. But this post is so much more than just a post for me.
Have you ever been on TV or radio in your capacity as a blogger? If so, what for? If not, do you think it’s something you’d like to have a go at?
Nope, never been on TV or the radio. Honestly, being featured on the TV or radio really scares me. I don’t have the courage or confidence to be so open and honest that way, just yet!
What is your least favourite thing about blogging? There must be something you don’t like about it…
As with everything there are good parts and bad parts. I could write a never ending list of amazing things blogging has done for me, but with all the positive there are so tough parts. For me my least favourite about blogging is opening myself to being trolled. They are so bloody awful. I still don’t understand why people feel the need to voice their opinion to a point that it’s done with unkindness. I’m all for differing opinions but leave it to a case of ‘ok we will agree to disagree’. This and blogmin! Checking bad links has become the bane of my life! I should just pay someone to do this for me really, I’m sure they’d be quicker.
Do you have any advice to give to anybody out there thinking of starting a blog right now?
Do it! It will change your life in ways you can’t imagine. I will also encourage others to start a blog, actually I have told four people I know to start one and they have. Practical advice would be to buy your domain straight away and bash out as much content as you possibly can.
Where do you do most of your blogging? Do you have a home office, are you on the sofa or do you prefer to be out and about when writing posts?
It’s funny because my inspiration comes at the most inconvenient times. Like when we are out and about or when I’m the bath or shower. But currently on the notes on my phone I have 56 notes! 56!!! However day to day I will allocate certain times of the day where I will sit at my dining room table to write. We are currently working on some
office space for me, an exciting project.
Be honest. How many unwritten posts are in your drafts right now? How many are likely to see daylight?
Currently I have 22 posts in my drafts. Some posts are ready to go out, some that need photographs and some with just snippets of information or just random words. There are a couple of posts that I am reluctant to share for one reason or another so I guess it’s a case of perhaps one day.
What are you most excited about for your blog in the last six months or so of 2019? Anything awesome in the pipeline for the summer or are we forever winging it?
There have been some exciting projects planned for us this summer as brands have been reaching out more and more, which is amazing. I can’t say that I will be up with the Zoella’s of the world but I like what my blog brings to my life, I adore each and every opportunity and the doors it has opened for me and my family. So watch this space.
Finally, what is your absolute favourite thing about being a blogger?
As I have already mention the blogging community is amazing. It’s strange to think that you can begin to make long life friends through a blog. There is a whole community who understand the whole passions of the perfect Instagram photo, you know the ones. They understand the pressures of followers and engagement and making sure that your SEO is on point, even though many of us have yet to master the whole idea of SEO. But being a blogger has opened up many doors to new friendships who are always on the end of a twitter rant or always there to offer advice in those Instagram pods. I honestly couldn’t be any happier.
