Why Lanzarote is the Perfect Destination for Your Holiday This Summer

If you’re looking for an escape that’s as easy as it is unforgettable, Lanzarote has everything you could want. Whether it’s a sun-kissed beach day or a taste of local art and wine, this island offers something for everyone, meaning Lanzarote holidays are perfect for your summer holiday this year

Lanzarote

Volcanic Beauty and Sun-Drenched Shores

Lanzarote’s landscape is like something out of this world – quite literally. It’s described as a Martian landscape because of its dusty, rocky formations. The island’s climate is a dream, too. With temperatures between 26°C and 29°C on average, the summer heat is never overwhelming thanks to the steady trade winds from the Atlantic.

The beaches, each with their own character, are one of the island’s main draws. Playa de Papagayo boasts serene emerald waters, tucked away in a protected natural park, making it perfect for those who enjoy peace and privacy. Elsewhere, the striking Caleton Blanco in the north is a contrast with its white sands meeting rugged black lava rocks, offering a more dramatic landscape.

Easy Travel and Smooth Logistics

You’ll find Lanzarote surprisingly accessible, as it’s only a four-hour flight from Ireland and the UK. On arrival, use the automated e-gates at the airport to avoid long queues, especially on weekends when the airport can be busy.

If you want to skip the car rental hassle, check out different forms of public transport, including the IntercityBus services. They’re a convenient, eco-friendly way to get around the island, and you can avoid the stress of parking and driving altogether.

It’s also worth picking up a Spain eSIM before you fly so you have mobile data ready to go from the moment you touch down, which makes navigating the island and booking restaurants on the go so much easier.

Art, Wine and Culture Beyond the Resort

Surprisingly for some, Lanzarote has a unique blend of art and nature, thanks to the influence of César Manrique, the island’s most famous artist. Unlike other holiday destinations, you won’t see towering high-rises or flashy advertising billboards here.

Lanzarote is also a treat for wine lovers. The La Geria region is home to vineyards unlike any other. Vines grow in circular pits, protected from the wind by volcanic rock, making it a must-visit destination. You should also try Malvasía Volcánica, a local wine grown in volcanic ash.

If you’re visiting in June or July, be sure to also check out the Lava Live Festival in Arrecife, or the Teguise White Night, a celebration of local culture.

Travel with Purpose in this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve

Lanzarote’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status is something locals take great pride in. This means that the island is protected from over development. It’s important to support the island’s approach to sustainability too. You can do so by dining at local ‘biosphere-certified’ restaurants and sticking to the designated trails in Timanfaya National Park. This way, you’re helping preserve Lanzarote’s beauty for future generations.

For an unforgettable experience, try to embrace ‘micro-tourism’ and explore small villages like Haría, where the pace is slow. Or, you could hop on a ferry to La Graciosa, a car-free island that feels like a step back in time.
