It is hard to escape all the talk of rising living costs in recent months. As a parent, making ends meet can be especially challenging. When the price of everything seems to be rising while your income stays the same. Financial worries can be a big source of stress, taking away your enjoyment of family life. It may feel like the current financial situation is out of your hands. Luckily there are many practical ways to take action and reduce the cost of family life.

Cutting your costs doesn’t need to mean going without or spoiling your enjoyment of time with the kids. Instead, it is possible to reduce the cost of family life while enjoying the time you spend together. You simply need to know how. Take a look at these tips that could help you reduce the cost of family life today.

Look for Easy Wins

Before you do anything else, it is helpful to look for the easy wins that will save you money with minimal effort. Your easy wins are ways to cut costs that won’t impact your life but will help minimise your outgoings. A great place to start when looking for easy wins is to go through your bank statements. The chances are that you have at least a few different payments leaving your account each month that you don’t need to. These payments could be for gym memberships you no longer use or subscriptions you are no longer interested in.

These quick and simple savings may not seem much in isolation. But they can add up to healthy savings across an entire year. It is a good idea to use this money for something specific. Such as putting it into a rainy day fund so that it doesn’t simply get swallowed up in your bank account. Don’t forget to check you won’t be charged a fee for cancelling your direct debits and terminating contracts for things such as gym memberships.

Shop for Pre-Loved Items

Kids grow quickly, so you may spend a lot of your money buying new clothes and shows for your little ones. When your budget is already really tight, it can be difficult to keep up with your child growing so quickly, and needing to replace clothes and shoes that they are outgrowing can become extremely expensive.

One of the best ways to begin saving your money is to shop for second hand childrens clothing. Buying pre-loved clothing is an excellent way to make big savings and is also great for the environment. It is much easier to keep your kids looking smart and ensure that their clothes always fit comfortably when you can buy good quality clothing second-hand.

As well as picking up plenty of bargains to dress your kids, second-hand clothing websites are also an excellent way to make some extra money. Listing clothing for sale, your children have grown out of will help you to make some money and restock your little one’s wardrobe for less.

  1. Great tips, I am always shopping for preloved items when I get the time. It’s the only way to afford things for us!

  2. quite good at cancelling subscriptions- do love prelov3d ever since I was a teenager

  3. My husband was going through his account at the end of last month and found so many things he has been paying membership or subscriptions for that he is completely forgotten about. We were paying monthly maintenance fee on the fridge that we were planning to replace anyway. He was paying for kids pass which we never use. So it is always good to go through your bank statements to see if there’s anything you can cancel and save a little
