Toddlers want attention all of the time, don’t they? And when they don’t get the attention, they get moody and aggravated. And sometimes it can cost a lot of money taking them out and entertaining them. It can be time-consuming finding something that they haven’t done before. If you work from home, you really do need to find plenty of activities for your toddler to do. This keeps them occupied so you can get a little bit of work done. There is always the tv, but that only keeps their attention for a small while. There is device time, but again it will only keep them occupied for a short time. And there is nothing better than proper activities to amuse your toddler with. Here is a list of free activities to do with a toddler.

  • Playing Bubbles – Kids love doing this and it is free to do. Mix some washing up liquid and water to create the bubbles. gather products around the house that you can use to make bubble shapes.
  • Dress Up Day – Have a day where you dress up. Let your child wear your clothes, get your wedding dress out to play with. Dress up as pirates and princesses. Even make your own dress-up ideas, a tea towel can make awesome long hair for your child. Let them wear your shoes around the house, it can be so much fun for them.
  • Have an indoor picnic – You can have a teddy bear picnic or a queen and princess picnic. Wear tiaras and have dolls or teddy bears as your guests with your toddler.
  • A Zoo At Home – Make some animal masks, or wear animal print clothes and pretend you are in the zoo or on a safari. Crawl around making animal noises. This also teaches your toddler different animal noises as you play.
  • Discover New Things With Them – Discovery is how they learn. So help them to discover new things around the house. Let them wash up the dishes. Obviously, be careful what is in the sink and make sure you stay by their side. Let them help you put the shopping away, they will love to discover what is in the cupboards. Anything can be an adventure in a toddler home.
  • Art And Craft Ideas – They will love to draw whilst sitting at the table as you work. it will keep them occupied as you do a zoom call or need to meet a deadline. Do some painting with them, they will enjoy finger painting because they can make a real mess and not get told off.

  • Collecting Things Outside – Collecting things to take home and paint is always a winning activity. Anything can be collected, they just need a bucket or tub to collect their things in. Think of leaves, pebbles, shells, twigs and branches, flowers. Basically, anything lying around can be painted at home.
  • Library Time – Go to the local library, you can read books for free. There are usually bean bags to sit on and plenty of different books to explore with your toddler. You can sometimes find small reading book clubs or music clubs for toddlers at the library. You also get to meet other parents in the same situation as you.
  • Feeding Ducks – Toddlers will love this! Feed them with proper duck food, bread will make them ill.
  • Rolling Down Hills – Take your kids to some hills, make sure the area is clear of dogs muck and stones. Then simply roll down them like you are a child yourself. Your toddler will love it as much as you do.
  • Play In The Mud – Mud kitchens are fun for toddlers. They love to get messy and the dirtier they will get, the more fun this will be. Let them create pretend food out of mud, or build a mud castle with them.
  • Garden Centres – A visit to a garden centre is an adventure for a toddler. They will have so much to explore and learn there. You can talk about flowers and smell them. You might even find a flower or two to take home and plant in the garden.

All of these activities are great for bonding with your toddler. And also great for opening up their world to so much more than the tv. You don’t have to do things like this every day, because you are rocking it as a parent. But occasionally, it is fun to do something different.

  1. These are some good ways to keep the little ones busy. Can be so hard to figure out how to keep them busy. These ideas will come in handy to many.

  2. We love bubbles in our house – the Zoo at home is a great idea! There are youtube videos that have an animal noise or texture (fur) and then tell you what the animal is after 5 seconds – our youngest really loved guessing when she was younger.

  3. I used to love it when my twins were toddlers, and we used to go for walks to collect leaves, pine cones and shells and pebbles from the beach. We’d take them home and use them for painting, stamping, glueing, and basically make a massive mess!!

  14. I used to love playing shop when I was a child and when my son was born bought a toy till and a toy shop set up so we could play lol. Outdoor play is really important too especially to learn about science
