How To Involve Children In The Community

Being actively involved in the local community can help your child in their development. They can build their confidence and learn how to socialise with others. You can also reinforce strong values and raise them to be thoughtful and generous. We have teamed up with a pre prep school in Buckinghamshire to share more on How To Involve Children In The Community.

Compassion

Community involvement can encourage children to look after their local area and those that live within it. It’s something that requires selflessness and can help them to be kinder and more empathetic individuals.

Social Skills

Working in the local community can help your child to meet others their age and learn how to interact with them. This can help to build their confidence and be good practice for the future when they move schools etc.

Responsibility

Responsibility

A nice neighbourhood and community relies on its residents to keep it that way. That places individual responsibility on your child to look after it by not littering and being a good citizen.

Sense of Belonging

Sense of belonging

Where you come from plays a role in forming your identity and can give you a sense of belonging. It gives you a place in the world that you can call your own and can help children to feel secure and loved.

Work Experience

Community involvement is voluntary and involves doing work to give back. That might look like a community gardening project or raising money for local services. Regardless of what it is that they do, your child can gain some transferable skills from their work experience.

A Wide Network

Community work can bring people together and help your child to make connections that they otherwise would not, helping to expand their network. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child and a wider network means that there are more people to keep an eye on them.

  1. I think it is so important for children to feel involve and learn to respect in the community we live in. I’m always getting my children to bake things for our neighbours and we have picked up litter around our block. I make sure we say hi to everyone we meet in the lift and it’s those small things that make all the difference

  2. Im quite shy person and I really dont want my daughter to be the same but she is heading that way, I really need to up my game and get involved in community things for her sake and it may do me a favour too.
