What Causes Excessive Sweating

There are so many different causes to why you are suffering excessive sweating such as

Primary hyperhidrosis

This usually affects one specific area of the body such as

  • Palms of the hand
  • Under the arrms
  • Soles of the feet
  • Face
  • Scalp

Secondary hyperhidrosis

This usually happens all over the body, and typically develops in adulthood. Usually it is tied with a condition such as Diabetes or the Menopause. As you will know I am suffering with the hot flushes.

There are things you can do, to help prevent excessive sweating

1. Wash Regularly

Excessive sweating can cause body odour. By washing regularly using an antibacterial soap or shower gel. This will wash the sweat away leaving you clean and fresh. Make sure to keep your armpits shaved as this will help stop excessive moisture being collected.

2. After The Shower

Once you have had your shower and dried off, wait before getting dressed to let your body cool down and be completely dry. Use Antiperspirant before you finish getting dressed.

Use armpit sweat pads, to help reduce the noticeable sweating marks. You may find that these will give you the confidence to carry on as normal without the embarrrassment of sweat marks, or fear of body odour.

3. Check Medication

Have you recently changed your medication and noticed you are sweating more? If so look at the side effects on the leaflet or pop into your Chemist to ask if this is normal.

4. Look At your Diet

Sometimes it can be something as simple as your diet. Start a diary of what you are eating and drinking, alongside when you are sweating more. This may give you a pattern and you will be able to see if you need to alter your diet.

5. Try Relaxation Exercises

It could be that you are going through a stressful time at the moment, and feeling anxious and stressed. Taking some time out to relax, will also help you control your body temperature and reduce the excessive sweating.

  • Take a walk
  • Read a book
  • Listen to music
  • Paint your nails

I am sure any of you who are going through the menopause or have been through it will totally understand the stress or excessive sweating. All thanks to the hot flushes. Hopefully these tips will help, and give you back your confidence to get out there and have fun.

  3. I didn’t really sweat much until I hit the menopause and since then I have had to layer clothes so that I can easily take a layer off if I suddenly have a hot flush

  4. I have never had a sweating problem but I knew a colleague who did and I had the awful job of confronting him about it being an office manager back then. I knew it must have been a problem as he showered daily in the office and wore fresh clothes every day but it got to the point where everyone was complaining about him due to the smell. I felt so sorry for the guy and it was horrible for my manager to tell me to confront him about it. I hope he got the help he deserves from the GP as he is a really nice person
