Looking After Our Feathered Friends

Last week I shared some tips on how to keep a tidy garden. If you keep on top of keeping your garden tidy, it gives you more chance to sit and enjoy it. One thing we love in our garden is watching the birds, which is why looking after our feathered friends is important.

birds feeding

Apart from the usual birds we get in our garden, a few months ago our garden was a sea of green with Parakeets and we have also spotted a woodpecker and her baby. We love spotting different birds.

Bird Feeders

Bird Feeders

We do have a bird feeder in our garden, and recently sent a Sterling Tree Feeding Station, which on its own is a beautiful addition to the garden. I was also sent feeders and food, so had everything I needed to feed our feathered friends.

Bird Feeders

As already said, we do already have a bird station, but our garden gets so busy. We did need to get another one, as we were forever having to make sure if was filled.

We also have to do what we can throughout the year, but more importantly in extreme heat and in the midst of winter when everything is frozen. They know where they can go to get what they need for survival.

  11. We have so many to choose from amongst our garden visitors, little sparrows and dunnocks, coal tits, blue tits, great tits, even seen one song thrush earlier in the year. My favourites are robins and goldfinches both elusive so when I see them I’m thrilled. Also have plenty of red kites nesting nearby so always amazed by their majestic wingspans!

  13. I love seeing the goldfinches in the garden but my absolute favourite is the spotted woodpecker that visits occasionally

  14. The Barn Owl. I have been fortunate to watch generations of them using the field at the back of us as their hunting ground. Mesmerising to watch

  15. For me, nothing beats a bald eagle. Go hard or go home! My parents are obsessed with Robins though. Robin tea towels, placemats, teacup… the list is endless

  16. Collared Doves, we have a pair who come back year after year to nest and I love watching them hatch and their gentle cooing helps me to sleep

  18. I love watching the blue tits in the Garden. But my favourite has to be the owl, we have one near by that I can hear hooting most evenings.

  19. I love my little naughty magpie. He has actually started tapping my bedroom window early in the morning if the bird feeder I have stuck to it isn’t full. I think I accidentally trained him by filling it early one morning when he was sat chattering away. He is very good and leaves the other birds and their nests in my garden including my owl alone.

  27. Red Kite, last couple of years we are getting so many fly over us in West London, they are quite a sight to see!

Their water supply has reduced due to lack of rain and their food supply such as seeds and Insects are dying due to the draught so if everyone left some food it would be great to protect these birds
