The Diary Of A Menopausal Mum

Diary Of A Menopausal Mum – 16/07/21

Yay it is Friday, which means we have survived another week and can look forward to the weekend.  This is a lighthearted look at the menopause.  Where each week I talk about various topics and also share things that have happened to me.

You have been there with me through the trauma of my front tooth breaking during lockdown 1.  The numerous dentist appointments I have gone through.  Last Friday, I finally had my tooth taken out, this went was quite traumatic.  Not for the tooth extraction, but my dentist had to keep breaking parts of the tooth, and the noise went right through me.

Sadly, during pregnancy 18 years ago, my teeth suffered.  Previous to this I had lovely strong and healthy teeth, which my daughter drained from me.  I was told that my teeth would start to go at some stage, apparently this is more common than you think.  I was left with weak teeth and very strong roots. Which brings me back to today, I still have the root in place.

I have to make the decision to keep it there, or have surgery to remove it.  After having a week of wearing dentures, they are something that is very weird and I am not enjoying. My mouth is still bruised and sore and I can feel the root so think I am going to have to agree to surgery to have it removed.

No one understands

Is your house like mine, everyone thinks you are there to run around after them, while you are trying to sort dinner, put the washing out/get the washing in, feed the dogs, clean the house and the list goes on.  I swear if I say I am busy I get looked at as if I have two heads.  I keep saying one of these days I am going to walk out and go away for a week, with no warning and see how they cope.  But truthfully I would be devastated if they did.

Zone out time

One thing I am lucky to have is strong nails, which means I can grow my nails easily (I have my Mum to thank for that).  Last year my husband treated me to a gel nail kit, with the uv light.  I have slowly been adding to my collection and loving taking that time out to paint my nails.  I just need a nice area to store them where I can see them properly.

Easy Dinners

Yesterday, I wrote about the importance of family meals, and made my easy Cottage Pie for dinner, and we all sat around the table and had a nice relaxing meal.

How has your week been?

I used to find the start lovely and relaxing, and towards the end a struggle, luckily C’s best friend lived just down the road and we used to do a lot with her and her Mum

Sorry to hear about your tooth, my Mum lost most of her teeth very young and I’ve seen the pain of new dentures with her many times. I hope it improves real soon. Mich x

My dentist praised me for keeping up with wearing the dentures last week, I dont like them but it is better than the missing tooth

I do know I am appreciated, this rant was more about I was just starting to prepare dinner and my Mum expected me to drop everything and take my Dad to pick their car up from the garage. We ended up with a takeaway as it would have taken too long when I got back to cook it

OMG YES my house is just like that. Some days I feel like a slave! I always say how will they cope without me doing everything for them and working myself! You are not alone.

I think it is just the role we take on, but I generally do wonder how they would cope if I was not there

I know what you mean. I run around loads and with little help. It is frustrating and I could do with a break even a small one.

I have arranged to meet up with a couple of friends I used to work with 30 years ago in a few weeks, before I go out I have to sort everyone else out with their meals etc. When my hubby goes out I don’t get that. But in fairness he does say he can sort himself out lol

I’ve talked to so many people who have had a tooth extracted in the past week it’s really bizarre! I had a tooth removed that was already broken so it wasn’t a full tooth but like you it was the sound that went through me.

It seems to be quite common at the moment, after chatting with my dentist we are leaving the root which I am happy about and can let ot heal. The sound is awful isn’t it

I am at the very beginning of mine, and I am sweating everywhere! I wake up and my pyjama top is soaked through, and I particularly sweat on my chest and my neck. Sometimes I am running with sweat in that area but nowhere else, it’s bizarre.

It is strange isn’t it, I drive my husband mad when I am sleeping covers on, covers off, covers on, feet out it is a nightmare
