ToggleLast weekAMP, I shared that it was confirmed that I had diabetes. I am slowly getting my head around this, and after buying a blood sugar monitor. Now I can check my bloods after each meal, plus my medication increased yesterday from 1 tablet a day to 2 tablets a day.
I do not like taking medication, and these leave a taste in my mouth. Good thing is, I seem to be keeping at a manageable level, which is good. I have also found some alternatives to sweet treats that C is helping me try. Graze snacks seem to be working ok and keeping my sweet tooth satisfied. I also found I can eat malt loaf which I love.
A lot of parents are going through the stress of exams. C is sitting her last GCSE today thankfully. On Monday she had her last English exam, which is her strongest subject. I dropped her at college just after 8am giving her time to register and be ready.
She messaged me at just after 12, to say it had finished. I asked if it had gone ok and she said no, asked if she was ok and she wasn’t. So, I went to pick up a very upset C. They had messed up totally and she ended up starting late through a glitch. She has an EHCP in place and can use a laptop and have breaks and additional time if needed.
I spent the rest of the day, finding out what had happened, explaining how C was during the exam and how it could affect her results. They apologised, admitted it was their fault and putting something on her exam explaining this. I also had confirmation that this will not happen today.
Only a few days to go until Fathers Day, and I have been adding some lovely gift ideas including special edition Champagne celebrating Roger Daltry. You can find the gift guide hereAMP in case you are still looking.
The thrift revolution has well and truly started as more people favour buying pre-loved over new. Over the last five years, the UK clothes resale market has grown by a staggering 149%* and with over a third of the UK public** buying more second-hand items, the trend of “slow fashion” is only going to grow.
More than simply a trend, it’s a new way of British living – of being environmentally aware – and with the feel good factor thrown in!
Sudocrem, the ultimate multi-tasking skincare brand, is supporting the trend with the first ever awards dedicated to celebrating the love of pre-loved. They have enlisted the help of Brogan Sommerville, 2022 finalist on The Great British Sewing Bee, to launch and judge the Sudocrem Pre-Loved Awards.
Sudocrem are searching for the individuals and retailers who champion the win-win merits of thrifting. “We want to celebrate the people and places who fly the flag for pre-loved fashion and give pre-loved clothes another moment in the spotlight,” says Alice Bamford, Senior OTC Marketing Manager for Sudocrem. “Helping families to save money is at the heart of what we do and when we launched Sudocrem Naturals, which is fully recyclable, we took a big step forward to becoming a more sustainable brand. The Sudocrem Pre-Loved Awards is part of our ongoing commitment to encourage recycling and reusing.”
There are six categories to enter in Sudocrem’s Pre-loved Awards, from Mum and Baby to Senior, to Young Professional. There’s also Best Charity or Vintage Shop, Best Pre-loved Online and Best Vintage Fair/Market.
“The Sudocrem Pre-Loved Awards are the Oscars of savvy second-hand shopping and upcycling,” says Brogan. “I’m never happier than when I’m customising second-hand clothes. Local charity shops or vintage emporiums are the perfect place to bag a unique bargain and build an outfit that’s as unique as you are.”
To enter go to: http://sudocrem.co.uk/pre-loved/enter
Everyone who enters goes into a prize draw to win a £1,000 Airbnb voucher and Airbnb vouchers worth £200 will be presented to the category winners.
The competition launches on 5th June 2023 and remains open until 31st August 2023.
glad your diabetes management is getting there – hope they sort something out for caitlin
I have had to stop the medication so need to speak to my GP. Hopefully C is sorted
Sorry, Things haven’t worked out the way you expected! Hope things get better!
That’s so sad that C didn’t think the exam went well, I hope they’re able to do something to help if she didn’t get the right support. That’s good that you’ve been able to get your sugar levels at a manageable state without the medication x
It has been upsetting and college have apologised and added notes to her exaam to explain. I am on medication but still happy with how it is going
Hope the last exam went well and she can now try and relax and enjoy the summer holidays!
It did go well. still in college on her main course and hopefully finishing next Friday a week early
Sorry there was a problem with the testing. I know how frustrating that can be.
It did cause a lot of stress but hopefully sorted out now
Great that you are looking at ways to manage sweet cravings following your diagnosis. Sorry to hear that C did not get the help they needed for exams, very poor form from the school.
Sorry to hear that you are dealing with diabetes now. That sounds like a big change in your life. It certainly seems like a rollercoaster week. Hopefully things go more smoothly.
It has been a nightmare week
Sorry to hear things have been a little rough, but I hope things start to shape up for you and that managing with your new medication becomes easier.
Thank you it is just about changing a few things
Happy Father’s day to all Dads out there! You are heroes.
We are so excited for Father’s day. It’s one of the best things we love to celebrate at home.
We love celebrating the day as well
That’s great you found some good snacks. I can’t imagine it is easy to discover having diabetes.
They do help if I want something sweet
I’m sorry to hear that the exam didn’t go so well. Starting late must have been very stressful for her. At least they admitted fault. Hope they follow that up with something else of value that will help. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of sweet alternatives to help with keeping the diabetes under control.
She was very upset, and they have put something on her paper to show the delay and problems. I am finding them ok which is good
I’m hoping C is okay, always talk to her. I’ve been in that situation and it was so an awful feeling. Btw, thanks for the idea of the gifts on Father’s Day.
She is ok, and luckily she does talk to us. Glad to have helped with Fathers Day
I am glad the GCSEs are almost over and done with! I am sorry to hear about your diabetes diagnosis. It can imagine how difficult it must be to adapt.
We are now finished thankfully, it does take some getting used too but I will concur it
Dealing with a new medical diagnosis can be overwhelming in the beginning but at least you have information now!
It is very overwhelming, but getting easier
We’re alike, I hate to take medications for all kind of reasons, ugh!!! Only when I really need to, I would take half of the recommended quantity lol…
I am making sure I take these, but know I will forget at some stage
Awful about exams. Hope today goes much better
It was and they realised they had caused the error. She came out smiling today
