Today is Day 24 of the Blogtober 2025 challenge. Today we are discussing How My Sleep Changes With the Seasons.
If you had asked me this question last year, it would have been easy to answer. I used to sleep really well, until the menopause hit and those in the know just know what I mean by that. Sadly, I lost my husband at the beginning of February this year.
Since that day, my sleep has been very hit and miss. I have not slept properly in all that time, I literally wake up 10 times a night, lay there for hours and finally give in around 6.30 – 7 as there is no point in keeping on trying. I refuse to go on sleeping tablets but have been given medication to help close of my mind that does help me drift off for an hour and then the cycle starts.
So I am going to cast my mind back a year and try to remember how the different seasons change my sleeping pattern.
Table of Contents
ToggleStarting with my favourite season Spring. As the weather starts to get nicer and the days start to be longer. I notice I sleep a lot more calmly I can feel a shift in me. Maybe it is the sunlight after months of grey skies.
As much as I love the carefree days of the Summer. Sleeping in the Summer is a nightmare. There is nothing nice about trying to sleep when it is so hot. Even lying there trying to sleep can bring you out in a sweat. Then you have the noise of the fan going which you are using to try to keep cool
When Autumn comes along, the days start getting shorter and the weather cooler. We welcome those nights where we can actually go to sleep under our duvets without sweltering and being too hot to sleep
When Winter comes along, we reach for the hot chocolate and the fluffy socks. Anything to give us the warm and cosiness we are after. I tend to sleep better when it is cooler and often find myself wrapped up in the duvet.
How does the different seasons affect your sleep pattern?
I dont sleep well all year round unfortunately!
Me too now, I always slept great but now totally different
The tempature really does mess with my sleeping as well! I like the winter as I feel like I can really control the heat.
I really can not sleep when it is too hot, I even get hot just lying there trying to stay cool. The colder nights are much more comfortable
You’re spot on. My sleep changes depending on the season too. I have just noticed the difference as I’ve aged. So far, I’ve grown to enjoy sleeping in a cool room. As long as I have that, it’s easier to fall asleep.
I prefer a cooler room, I now just need to get the art of proper nights sleep back again
I always sleep the best in winter. I love getting all cozy under the covers when it’s cold outside.
That is always the best feeling
I rarely manage to sleep for 7 hours straight without waking up at 3 am, especially in Summer. I tend to sleep a lot better in Winter.
I wake so much in the night now, I always used to say my husband was my comfort blanket and I think that is why I wake so much as he is not there
I need more sleep in the winter but don’t need as much in the spring/summer
I would just like sleep at this time, one day I will get a full nights sleep again
