Favourite Apple Recipes For Autumn

As I mentioned yesterday, we have an apple tree in our garden that produces loads of apples. Which is why I am sharing some of my favourite apple recipes for Autumn.

Apple Pie

Everyone loves an apple pie, I do cheat and buy my pastry ready made these days.

Ingredients

Ready made pastry – shortcrust, puff or you can use both depending on preference

6-8 apples peeled and sliced

Sugar – to taste

Cinnamon – optional

Butter

Method

• The easiest pie is one with no pastry base.
• Peel, core and chop or slice the apples and mix with the sugar, cinnamon add the butter. You can just add this to the dish and add the pastry on top. Or cook down in a saucepan first which I prefer to do.
• Add the pastry and cook on 180 until the pastry lid is cooked and golden brown.

Brown Sugar

Butter

Raisins

Nuts

Method

• Core the apples
• Place in a baking dish and fill with the mixture of cinnamon, brown sugar and butter
• Bake at 180 until the apples are tender

Apple Sauce

Ingredients

Apples

Sugar

Water

Method

• Peel, core and chop the apples
• Simmer in a pan in a little water until they soften
• Taste and add sugar if needed
• You can either leave or blend for a smoother apple sauce AMP

We also peel, core and slice apples and freeze down. You then have apples to use through out the year. My kids love these just cooked through and have always called it apple stew since they were little.

These look delicious. When the kids were young, I’d often make apple/pear stew and baked apples and pears. I haven’t in a long time and forgot how delicious they are. Thanks for the inspiration xxx

We had an apple tree in the garden of the house I grew up in and apple pie was one of the first things I learnt to cook!

It is lovely having an apple tree sadly we lost our other fruit trees

My dad gave me a load of apples over the weekend and I still have quite a few left. I think I am going to have to try some baked apples. I’ve already made pies, crumbles and a few jars of apple sauce. x

You can’t beat an apple pie, and by only putting pastry on the top you avoid a soggy bottom!

Thank you for these ideas. I’ve just picked all the apples off my apple trees in the back garden and need inspiration to cook with them. I think I’ll make a yummy crumble and some apple chutney. Yum yum

Sounds lovely, I tried an apple chutney a few years ago but it didn’t taste great. Maybe I should try a different recipe
