There’s nothing more relaxing than having someone else help around the house. Parents need all the help they can get, after all! When children reach toddler age they can start to pick up small tasks around the home that will make a great difference. And here’s why, from an independent school in Bucks.

They give children a sense of responsibility

Children are learning first hand how to take responsibility. By picking up tasks their parents normally do, and contributing towards the household. It gives a child a sense of purpose when they’re given tasks to do. That help parents with keeping the home tidyAMP and fresh.

Helps their independence

Children are given the chance to take on these responsibilities. They also gain a bit of confidence in learning how to do these jobs in the first place. Parents give children the trust that they can do these tasks in their own space and time. Which shows children that they can be independent and boost their self-esteem.

Teaches them about time management and efficiency

If a child is running against the clock, they’re bound to finish the task faster! Knowing that there may be a reward or something to look forward to after finishing their chores. Will give them more motivation to finish their tasks in quick succession. When they’re adults, they’re also able to learn how long it’ll take for them to complete a task.

Builds a stronger connection between the family

A child ultimately feels involved when they are asked to do chores in the home. It’s something that kids can look forward to. Plus, also know that they are making a difference to the way the home looks and feels to others.

When they know that they’ve set the table, helped with the washing up or took the dog for a walk they’ll often be thanked and given praise for doing so. It alleviates pressure off their parents. They’ll know how important their role is in the household and will be hugely beneficial to the way the home is run.

My 6 year old daughter loves helping with chores, bless her especially cleaning the windows but when she is not looking I do have to go back over them haha. My son used to love helping too but now he is 14 it’s a job to get him out of bed at the moment!
