One thing we used to love when our kids were younger, was getting outside whether it was playing in the garden, or going for walks as a family.
With the Summer holidays in full swing, keeping the kids entertained can get difficult, so I have compiled a list of how to keep your kids entertained this summer that will not break the bank, that we used to love doing when the kids were younger.
1 – Have fun in the garden
Playing in the garden is great fun and lets the kids let of steam and give you time to do a few things indoors or sit and have a well earned cuppa. There are so many things they can do
- Play with toys
- Paddling Pool
- Water fights
- Get some paints and do feet painting, you will get lovely coloured grass and it will wash away
2 – Go on a picnic
Head out for a picnic, it is great eating outside and picnic food always taste nicer. Take a ball with you and play games.
3 – go for a walk in the woods
Go for a walk in the woods, and let their imaginations get to work. There is so much fun you can have in the woods
- Collect different leaves
- Look at the different trees
- Spot birds and wildlife
- Recite the Gruffalo and see if you can spot him (this used to be a huge favourite of ours)
- Collect pine cones
4 – Walk to the shops
There is so much fun you can have when on just a walk to the shops
- Count how many red, blue cars there are
- Make up words with letters from a car registration
- Count how many steps you go up or down
- Eye spy
Even the simplest things can be fun, and letting children use their imaginations really adds to the adventure. Regatta have a lovely campaign running, where they ask children to design their own dream outside space and then turn those dreams into a reality. You can find out more by heading over to their Kids Ultimate Green Space campaign.
Do you have any other ideas on getting out and about with the kids? Share them below so we can all get to do more fun and exciting things. Most of all making happy memories we can all look back on.
