Things To Do With The Kids This Summer

One thing we used to love when our kids were younger, was getting outside whether it was playing in the garden, or going for walks as a family.

With the Summer holidays in full swing, keeping the kids entertained can get difficult, so I have compiled a list of how to keep your kids entertained this summer that will not break the bank, that we used to love doing when the kids were younger.

1 – Have fun in the garden

playing in the garden

Playing in the garden is great fun and lets the kids let of steam and give you time to do a few things indoors or sit and have a well earned cuppa.  There are so many things they can do

  • Play with toys
  • Sand
  • Paddling Pool
  • Bubbles
  • Water fights
  • Get some paints and do feet painting, you will get lovely coloured grass and it will wash away

2 – Go on a picnic

family picnic

Head out for a picnic, it is great eating outside and picnic food always taste nicer.  Take a ball with you and play games.

3 – go for a walk in the woods

walk in the woods

Go for a walk in the woods, and let their imaginations get to work.  There is so much fun you can have in the woods

  • Collect different leaves
  • Look at the different trees
  • Spot birds and wildlife
  • Recite the Gruffalo and see if you can spot him (this used to be a huge favourite of ours)
  • Collect pine cones

4 – Walk to the shops

family walk to the shops

There is so much fun you can have when on just a walk to the shops

  • Count how many red, blue cars there are
  • Make up words with letters from a car registration
  • Count how many steps you go up or down
  • Eye spy

Even the simplest things can be fun, and letting children use their imaginations really adds to the adventure. Regatta have a lovely campaign running, where they ask children to design their own dream outside space and then turn those dreams into a reality.  You can find out more by heading over to their Kids Ultimate Green Space campaign.

Do you have any other ideas on getting out and about with the kids? Share them below so we can all get to do more fun and exciting things.  Most of all making happy memories we can all look back on.

It’s going to be so nice, once the weather warms up again. I haven’t been on a picnic in so long but my best friend is pregnant and wants to do something and I think this’ll be a nice idea to do with her and her children – let’s hope it’s not too hot. x

A picnic sounds like a great idea, maybe find somewhere a little shady as being pregnant in the heat is no fun x

All fun and great activities! Summer just ended here, but we did have a lot of fun in the pool before typhoon season came. My grandson loves swimming and he can’t wait for some good weather so he can go for a swim again.

Picnics are always fun if the weather is nice, I can not believe you have to book quite a way in advance to go swimming now

All great things to do. I want to go on more walks when the weather is nice, although it’s hit and miss if it will be dry enough x

It is not quite the same jumping in muddy puddles if you do not have kids with you is it x

We love exploring our local area and geocaching along the way – the kids love it!

Apparently, there is a heatwave coming so getting a paddling pool would be nice. We need a garden to use it though as I don’t think the other residents would be impressed. On the other hand, they’d all want to get in too lol. Might try and take one over to Mum’s garden. Bring on the heat!!!!

That is a shame about the other residents, how can they not want kids to be happy and play, but am sure your Mum would be happy to have you all there playing in a paddling pool

I wish this weather would cheer up and then there would be lots more to do with the children. We were going to go crabbing at the beach yesterday but it started pouring down just as we were walking out of the door so we ended up staying in and painting shells! Great advice. I love a walk in the woods.

It has been a horrible summer with the weather, and so many plans have had to go on hold, we used to take the kids crabbing when they were little
