Meet The Blogger – Fiona

This week I am introducing Fiona from Savvy In Somerset.

Tell Us About Yourself?

Hello! I’m Fiona and I blog at I live in Somerset with my husband Pete and my daughter Aubrey. I’m passionate about personal finance, in particular, all things money saving. I’m a seasoned charity shop raider and devoted frugal foodie.

How Or Why Did You Start Blogging?

Starting a blog was something I had wanted to do for a very long time before I actually took the leap and did. I followed a few other bloggers for quite some time and while I loved their content I also felt I had a lot to say that other people weren’t covering.

Has Your Blog Changed Since You First Started It?

I think my blog posts are a lot better overall. I feel like I’ve found my style and voice and my posts tend to be much more detailed and in depth now. Like anything, blogging is massive learning curve!

What Has Been Your Funniest Moment Since You Started Your Blog?

Nothing funny comes to mind – however I do chat to several other lovely bloggers every day and we do have quite a giggle.

What Has Been Your Worst Moment Since You Started Your Blog?

I’ve had a few moments of utter terror while blogging which usually involve me attempting to do something technical, failing, and my site disappearing or going offline. As my blog has evolved I’ve actually decided to pay a little bit extra for managed hosting so help is there when I need it!

What Advice Would You Give To A New Blogger Starting Out?

Don’t give up. So many blogs end up getting discarded because people start and don’t realise how much time and dedication it takes to keep going. After a year of blogging I quit my job to blog full time (alongside other online income streams). Two and a half years after starting my blog I won a SHOMO award for ‘Best Frugal and Thrift Blog’ YOU CAN DO IT!

What Surprised You About Blogging That You Did Not Realise When You First Started Blogging?

Just how much work it is. I think when you’re new to blogging it’s easy to think it’s just write, publish and that’s it. But there is so much more to it than that – social media, learning to edit images, SEO, wordpress and so on. That said all of those skills you’re learning are super valuable and could help with jobs or employment in the future.

What Do You Like To Do In Your Spare Time?

I am an avid quizzer and love attending quiz nights at my favourite bar.

If  You Won The Lottery What Would You Do First?

Book a holiday! I need some sunshine!

Who Is Your Blogging Hero And Why?

Emma Drew. She is huge in the UK personal finance blogging world and absolutely smashes it as a full time blogger. She’s the reason I started my blog and I really admire her work ethic.
