Get Out And Grow Primary School Competition

You may remember a short while ago I hosted a giveaway with Sudocrem for their Get Out And Grow Giveaway getting children out into the garden.

Get Out And Grow Primary School Competition

I am now very happy to advise you all that I am now a Get Out And Grow ambassador. To celebrate Sudocrem are launching their new Get Out and Grow school gardening kit giveaway, just in time for summer.  This new incentive is to encourage students to head outside. To get planting, growing and learning about just where fruit and vegetables come from.

Get Out and Grow

They are launching this great incentive because according to a recent survey, 90% of children said that they would like a garden at school.  And one primary school in Lincolnshire, having a school garden made all the difference when it came to pupil’s behaviour.

The Benjamin Adlard Primary School, run by Headmaster Sam Coy. Was previously rated by Ofsted as one of Britain’s worst schools.  Four years and a school garden later. The same school has won the national Pearson award for School of the Year.

Mr Coy insists that the children love den-building, just generally getting dirty and nature hunts.

Sponsored by Sudocrem

Sponsored by British skin care brand Sudocrem, the Get Out and Grow project was created following research that suggested gardening is being forgotten and many children lack basic knowledge about the natural world and where their food comes from.

Although 87% of  British households have a garden.  Over half of British children aged between 4 – 8 are unable to name 5 vegetables or fruits grown in them, and 95% were unable to name 3 herbs.

Many of the children could not identify gardening tools, with only 8% able to identify a trowel, and 80% had never seen a rake before.

73% of the children asked said that they had never grown a sunflower.  While only 8% had ever picked an apple and less than 10% had dug up a vegetable and 6% had never tasted a pea straight from the pod.

The Competition

Starting in June and running throughout the month. Get Out and Grow will award one school gardening starter kit to 20 schools nationwide.  The kits will include:-

– Children’s wheel barrow
– Small Watering can
– Extra long fork
– Extra long spade
– A Children’s hand spade x6
– Children’s hand spade x6
– A Children’s gloves x6
Anyone can enter the competition, please enter via the widget below and enter the details of your chosen school to be in with the chance to win.  The prize will be sent directly to the winning school.
