Blogtober 2020 – Wannabe

Blogtober 2020 - Wannabe

Today is day 14 of Blogtober 2020 and the theme today is Wannabe.  After thinking long and hard I am going to go through the list of jobs I used to think sounded great and wanted to do when growing up.

Air Stewardess

I always thought that being an air stewardess, sounded like such a glamorous job.  You got to fly to countries across the world, and always looked happy.  I soon changed my mind when I realised it was not quite as glamorous as it sounded.

I used to love experimenting with hairstyles and used to love going to the hairdressers.  My mums hairdresser talked to me about the long hours, the training and ongoing training and everything else that went with it.  I quickly changed my mind.

I did love reading, but the reason I wanted to be a librarian was so I could use their stamp that they used to stamp the inside of the books with.

Again this was to do with the stamps they used and also the little rubber finger cover when counting things.

What I actually did

I left school to work as admin in an employment agency for 3 years.  Which I left to work for a building society for 13 years where I got to use stamps, so I suppose I did do what I wanted to do when growing up.  I left and took some time out before working in a housing trust.

What job did you want to do when growing up? Did you end up doing this or something totally different?

  1. I always wanted to be a librarian but it’s something that I never ended up pursuing. I like this list. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Great list! I never thought that people might actually want to become post office counters. I wanted to be a writer from an early age on, but my parents told me that wouldn’t earn me a living.

  3. I also wanted to be an air stewardess or to work overseas. I got myself a fab position with a great travel firm, but unfortunately I chickened out at the last minute to work in London as a live in nanny xx

    1. I think a lot of people wanted to do that as a career at one point. My Mum used to be a live in Nanny many years ago now

  4. As a kid, I wanted to be a lawyer, then as a teen, I wanted to be a social worker. I did neither lol #blogtober

  5. Oh wow, what a ride! I just wanted to be happy when I grew up – didn’t care much for deciding what I wanted to be when I was older! I ended up in video games.
