As summer is now a memory, and we are embracing Autumn with cooler days and the nights drawing in, I always start to look forward to comfort food. We love homemade soup along with homemade bread. So when I was given the opportunity to review the Morphy Richards Compact Soup Maker, I said yes instantly.
I make homemade soups fairly often, and have often wondered about buying a soup maker, but always thought they are just another gadget that will not be used, and will end up gathering dust in the back of a cupboard. How wrong was I.
The soup maker comes with a booklet that has a few soup recipes in it, or you can google recipes and find so many more recipe ideas.
I was going to make a leak and potato soup for my first try, but as there was no leaks in the shop, I ended up making a cream of cauliflower soup.
- 1 tablespoon olive oi
- 1 clove of garlic, peeled and minced
- 1 large onion peeled and diced
- 600g cauliflower florets, washed
- 200g potatoes, peeled and diced
- 500ml chicken stock
- 100ml double cream
- Heat the oil in a saucepan and saute the onion and garlic until soft
- Into the soup maker place the potato, cauliflower, garlic and onion
- Add the cream and stock
- Place the lid and choose smooth setting
I pressed start and waiting for the maker to do its thing. Once it had finished I opened the lid to find a smooth, thick and creamy soup that was piping hot.
Our verdict, very impressed and one we will be making again.
I have since tried leak and potato and pea and ham soup and both of these have been a huge hit as well.
Homemade soup is so easy to make, and you can turn any left over or old vegetables into a healthy warming and satisfying meal. I really can not wait to start trying out new flavours and experimenting.
My only complaint with this soup maker is that I wish I had got one a long time ago.
