Blogtober 2017 – Day 3 – Cars

Day 3 in the Blogtober 2017 challenge is all about cars, now this is something that I usually leave to my husband, as a car to me is a source of getting from one place to another.

I started driving at 17 and passed my driving test when I was 17, so have been driving for many years.  From the age of 17 until I was 32 I owned 3 cars a Mini Metro which was written off about 6 months after I got it due to someone not stopping behind me, I then brought a Ford Fiesta which got so old it was getting unsafe to drive, I then drove a Ford Escort that again was going to cost more than the car was worth to fix, and finally a Fiat Uno, which is the car I owned when I met my husband and who sold as soon as he talked me around as he hated it.

My husband has always driven big cars, and back when we met he was one of those annoying people who would get bored of their car 2 minutes after they owned it, hence why we have always had older cars.  Over the years we have had a variety of cars, ranging from Range Rover, BMW, Alfa Romeo and Saab, I am sure there are a few more mixed in there.

I have also been very lucky that my husband has brought me a car for my birthday, as we needed two cars at the time

This car was originally silver, but my husband wrapped it orange and change the wheels to black and it also had two black stripes on.  This certainly turned heads wherever we went, and my Daughter loved this car, and used to get most disgusted with her Dad if he took it out as it was not his haha.  We decided to sell in the end as I needed a bigger car and it was just not getting used, and was such a shame as we all loved it.

This was another birthday present,  I wanted a convertible and loved the Saab we had years ago and so we got this, my Daughter and her friend used to love going to school on a hot summers morning with the roof down.  Unfortunately after a couple of years something went wrong on the car and we decided to sell.

This is our current car, surprisingly we have had it 4 years now, which is totally unheard of for us, It is a Mercedes (please do not ask me what model).  I have to say I love this car the boot space is massive which helps with my Daughters wheelchair, it is comfortable and I feel safe driving it.  Every year she has sailed through the dreaded MOT.  We keep talking about changing (well my husband does) as it is an old car now.  But I have talked him around to waiting until we really have to sell.  I also find parking easy but that may be due to parking sensors.

What car do you currently drive?

Darren from MotoFX says “wrapping a car is usually a more cost efficient way of changing its colour, as well as hiding any scratches or damages to the paint work.

    1. I have a friend who has the same as you and she loves it, when you have a family it is all about size and fitting everyone in x

  1. I would love the boot space too although I can see why you liked the orange car! I used to have a ford focus ST but even though I loved it I had to get a bigger car and now have a Vauxhall Antara which I had never heard of before I got one but its been a great family car

    1. My orange car was fun, but really not practical, was fine for 2 to go out, but even shopping I would have to go alone and put some in the boot the rest in the passenger side. Boot space is a must for me x

  2. In India, learning how to drive is not very necessary and at 25 I still don’t have a driving license. It was interesting to read about the different cars that were a part of your life 🙂

    1. I have had quite a few cars, it seems that younger people all over are not as keen to drive now as when I was younger x

  3. Cars are and have been my life! I grew up building race cars with my father and him teaching us kids how to do our own maintenance as well. Yes, I’m a lady and love them! Lol. And btw, I don’t blame your husband for choosing the fate if the FIAT. I worked for them in the service area of a dealership and I’m my opinion, they were just too small. Sorry 😉

    1. Sounds like you had a great childhood building race cars, he hated my Fiat for many reasons, and yes one was it was too small he loves bigger cars x

    1. I can sympathise I went to use mine yesterday and the battery was flat, need to use it again today so hopefully will be charged enough x
